I'd say Hillary was looking pretty presidential tonight...in more ways than one.
Some say she shouldn't have given that press conference. If she hadn't she would be criticized as being cold etc. Since she did she is criticized as milking publicity. Hard to win around here! I bet not a single candidate wouldn't have taken the opportunity for a national press conference and a chance to look presidential...and she DID!
GOOD FOR HILLARY!

1. that last press conference
was not so good.

She should have quit doing the public bit while she was ahead. The thank yous and hugs could have been given in private.

8. Why should she just give them in private?
What's wrong with doing it publicly? Shows compassion and that's what we want in a president. Someone who will come before the people with some understanding...not like bush* after 9/11 and Katrina. Someone like President Clinton. And if you believe the other candidates wouldn't have done the same thing...I've a rotten bushel of tomatoes to sell you.

Thanks for starting the thread. I felt the same way about how Hillary handled the whole situation. An indication she has the wherewithal and good sense when faced with a crisis situation.

6. Senator Clinton
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 10:36 PM by la la
was awesome at both of her 'press conferences' this evening. None went too long, none were 'political' and, in my opinion, it was something that she had to do, as a person who's office and volunteers were used in a seriously dangerous, possibly deadly and inappropriate manner.

Hillary bashers just need to keep quiet on this---it doesn't make them look good--whether that matters to them or not.

Let the repubs bash, if they must, but, in my opinion---DUers against Hillary need to STFU up.

my nickel's worth

13. Double your nickel
Not being political is a political success in displaying non-political leadership. Politics is not evil any more than liberalism. The AP will always accent 'calculation" and other derogatory points. The benchmark comparison of the conveniently evil GOP media ops shows this as wise application of a genuine response. How else do we show who we are? I could see Kerry surging in small meetings and personal contacts, but only on C-Span as he came unnoticed from the cellar to Iowa. The more people see our people being good humans and good leaders the better.

Down to 37% nationally; and she's not handled her frontrunner status well. Allowed a two-bit question at a debate to trip her up like an amateur.

21. Of the posts on this news conference on DU now, Auntie, Bush, I picked yours
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 11:14 PM by Old Crusoe
because you lay out the stakes plainly and fairly.

I think you're absolutely right on this conference. She's damned if she does it and damned if she doesn't.

Opportunistic limelighter if she does it, callous powermonger if she doesn't.

In the end she chose to hold the conference, and I feel that was the right decision.

The people who volunteer and work for her in that office are Democrats, just as we are, and there no call for thinking that it could conceivably have been one or more of us in that building instead of them.

Senator Clinton did the right thing.

We can't even tell competence when it's looking at us, after the past almost-seven-years of misery and idiocy and lies and deceit and mismanagement. It's also left us looking for ulterior motives under every rock. We're a far more suspicious people as a result of the bush regime. Really brought out the bile in people.

Thanks for this post. Hillary did a great job of providing closure and somebody needed to acknowledge the fact that the N.H. police did a really fine job. What a nice change it would be to have a president who is actually brilliant. I'd say all the Dem candidates are brilliant compared to Bush, but there's no doubt that Hillary is in a league all by herself.

And, yeah, it was nice to have a break today from the Hillary haters. Tweety was beside himself, he had to do a whole show without spewing hatred at Hillary, the poor jerk.

36. I think our prayers should be with the campaign workers who were traumatized
This horrible event has nothing to do with any candidate. It should not be the focus of bashing Hillary. We all should sympathize with her workers, just as they would sympathize with the workers of Hillary's political rivals if a similar event happened there.

At the same time, since most of us including myself are not making political hay out of this event, I think it appropriate for Hillary supporters not to try to make political hay out of this either.

Truces need to go both ways.

Peace.

38. The last press conference HRC held this evening was about
the campaign workers and their familes and what all they went through this afternoon and early evening. It was also a way to thank the law enforcement people that did a great job. HRC made this press conference about the workers (hostages) and their families and not about her. She did right by going to N.H. and meeting with her staff and the familes of her staff and to thank personally the law enforcement people.

The press that was gathered behaved as far as I could tell great and asked no stupid question un-related to what the press conference was about.

As HRC said it is on to Iowa for the weekend.

I JUST SAID SHE LOOKED PRESIDENTIAL DURING THE PRESS CONFERENCE!
In what way didn't she look presidential? You need to read the whole discussion if you didn't see it on TV. My God...even Chris Matthews praise her for doing a good job! First nice thing he's ever said about her. Are you so adamant in your hatred of Hillary that you can't recognize a good job when you see it?
