A particularly Orwellian bit of RW spin...
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 08:55 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
On the heels of Rove's announcing that the Democrats forced Bush into the Iraq War against his will, this really grabbed me. Walrus Bolton was on TV today and began an answer with a boilerplate description of the Iraq War that went something like this:
"I considered things like building democracy secondary. Of course the main reason we went into Iraq was to stop Saddam Hussein from getting WMD."
To STOP HIM FROM GETTING WMD. Not to destroy the mountains of WMD we knew were there... just to prevent Saddam from somehow getting them. With the implication that, of course, we knew he didn't HAVE them, silly! Nobody thought he HAD them we just needed to stop him from GETTING them.

We will see which Republican candidates adopt that clever little revisionary phrase. (It's pretty effective, brain-washing-wise)

2. No, but somebody will. He said on TV that the Dems forced the IWR vote, while Bush wanted to wait
Really... he said that. (Andrew Card later said about it, "sometimes Karl's mouth gets ahead of his brain.")

There are probably still some threads about it floating around.

6. Rove was on Charlie Rose

Astonishingly (or maybe not), Rose just let Rove run that screaming howler by him without so much as a raised eyebrow.

4. It's all a set up for Iran -
which they've been talking about for months, the need to PREVENT Iran from getting WMDs.

Who controls the past controls the present.

5. Good catch here.
This is quite typical of a shift in the focus of a propaganda campaign.
It has to start with the change of language from a marginal figure. It grows from there to become the party line.

Of course this may or may not be one of those moments. Regardless, it is good to understand this as you have.
