Carl Bernstein: Bloomberg/Hagel ticket.. WTF?
He just rushed off the Hillary Hostage topic and said "there are more important things we need to be focusing on", "Hillary is down in the polls and campaigns are in turmoil"... Blitzer of course, went to commercial.

3. That was the idea I was left with, but again, there wasn't much
discussion. Hagel evidently came out blasting the Bush administration today. Cafferty is talking about it right now. Bernstein says Clinton and Guiliani camps are in "trouble". CNN says they'll talk to him "next week".

2. There has been a lot of rumors about that, fueled by the fact that Bloomberg and Hagel met several
times.

I guess we will see at the beginning of next year if there is some basis behind that.

4. Well, they certainly both saw the GOP candidates implode in the debate..
there's a reason this rumor just hit primetime MSM via Carl Bernstein.

6. Hagel and Bloomberg met again earlier this week, I guess this is what fueled Bernstein's

speculations. Add to that that Bloomberg is briefed in foreign policy by Nancy Sodeberg and participated to a Foreign affairs forum with Mario Cuomo in September.

A lot of things that are fueling the rumors.

20. Bernstein has been spouting this "insider's" theory for MONTHS now.
I have seen him toss it out unasked on several pundit shows.
He really loves the idea, and just glows when he "reveals" this bit of gossip.

Weird.

9. He was talking specifically about HRC and Guiliani's camps
But then again, there was only that snippet.. Blitzer got all panicked because Bernstein got "off topic" of the hostage situation.. and wouldn't let him expand on it. Didn't mean to mislead. Sorry !

8. Too late. No candidate could seriously enter at this point.
The GOP is stuck with their present losers.

10. The rumor is about an indie ticket that would be financed by Mike's fortune.

13. Rasmussen had polls indicating Bloomberg would pull from Repubs
and I imagine Hagel would only pull more.

22. Bloomberg can pull from whichever side he choses
He can run as a liberal or as a moderate republican. Just a matter of whether he emphasizes his fiscal views or his social views.

17. He's kinda late to the party--- didn't we hear about this...
months ago? They've been meeting for going on a year now, and have long been rumored to be planning an indie run.

Hagel is very upset about the way things are going and Bloomberg is a Republican of convenience (he couldn't be bothered to run the gamut of NYC Democratic nomination insanity).

My completely irrelevant take on this, born of total ingnorance, is that they are mulling if an indy run is really impossible.

Just because Ross Perot, Teddy Roosevelt, George Wallace, Henry Wallace, John Anderson, and Robert LaFollette couldn't pull it off doesn't mean it's impossible.

Does it?

19. They may be "floating" the rumor to see how much press/public attention it gets..
Good point. I don't know anything about the politics of running on Indy ticket.. some of the gurus here who know nuts and bolts would have to respond. But why would Bernstein even say it if it was technically "too late"? I like the thought that the Rep. part might be torn asunder even more than they are now. :nuke:
