Richardson Brings Down the House at DNC Fall Meeting
DEMS FAULT OWN PARTY IN PITCH TO LEADERS

BY JIM KUHNHENN ASSOCIATED PRESS (AP)

Bill Richardson, John Edwards, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich addressed officials who make up the Democratic National Committee, their last opportunity to speak to such a gathering before the first presidential voting begins in January. Hillary Rodham Clinton was scheduled to speak, too, but canceled after a man took hostages at her office in Rochester, N.H.

Richardson did not go easy on the party, assailing the Democratic-controlled Congress for its failure to accomplish more and calling on the party to win back people's confidence.

"That begins with proving that we're listening to them," he said.

"Look at the last twelve months. Not only are we still in Iraq, we still have the failure called No Child Left Behind. We still have 9 million children with no health insurance. We're still allowing this president to thumb his nose at the Bill of Rights. We're slipping into a recession," Richardson said. "And we can't even reject an attorney general who refuses to condemn torture."

2. Richardson is actually looking better all the time.
And he's a governor, which gives him the advantage (as any review of the last 40 years will prove) over any senator.

I just wish Bill could articulate his message a little better in the debates. For all of his experience, he's not looking too good on TV.

He's not anywhere near as liberal as Dennis, but if he keeps going in this direction, he's a candidate I could live with.

3. Richardson was always a DLC stalwart
something that was reflected in his first bad two years as governor. Something seems to have happened to him since he's been outside the Beltway, and his last 3 years have been stellar. I have a sneaking suspicion that either he's going to shake the DLC up a lot or be kicked out of it.

If people don't wake up enough to realize he's presidential material, I sincerely hope the next president is smart enough to offer him the SOS position.

4. And if Richardson were in Congress, he would have changed all this how?
Give me a break. Richardson has the luxury of criticizing all of Congress because he is not a part of it. The dems have a narrow majority that cannot override a presidential veto.

Richardson is the king of pandering this cycle.

5. Hey Carrieyazel, just curious, how would you rank the candidates?
I am wondering who your 2nd, 3rd, etc choices are.
Thanks!

6. I would rank them: 1. Richardson/2. Biden/3. Edwards/ 4. Kucinich tied with Obama
I think Richardson and Biden have the best and most valuable experience out there. Edwards is a good candidate in numerous ways, but one term in the Senate doesn't seem to be enough.

7. Your top tier has the same names as mine.
Yes, I think Edwards will need to have a VP with experience, because he will get hammered on it.
Biden and Richardson won't have to worry about that issue.

8. Richardson's holding strong in New Hampshire but slipping in Iowa. Why is that?
