Republican caller to CSPAN: We have nothing to offer America, voting Biden or Obama
I hope this is a representative of the larger Republican group. This caller said he and his wife would be voting for Biden or Obama. Just sayin...we have a huge opportunity to draw huge numbers in this year !

1. I find it interesting that Biden and Obama are being noticed together.
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 01:04 PM by blm
After the last two Dem debates more Dems seem to be viewing the two together. I even put up a Biden/Obama thread after the last debate because it looked apparent that it would be a great ticket for AMERICA.

And what matters to me is America and its future and its future in the world. I am not surprised that other voters are viewing the election in this way - we are starting to turn the page on the secrecy and privilege view of the powerful elite in this country who have been at the helm for decades now.

2. 2nd Repub caller: None of our candidates are viable. Won't be voting this year.
Sorry to reply to my own thread, but you just can't make this stuff up. Republicans watching the DNC meeting and calling in to bash their own candidates.

3. Did you hear the Paul supporter shortly after?
He went on this long diatribe about how we need more funding for public schools blah blah blah then says he supports Ron Paul. The wacko who wants to dissolve the Department of Education and all federal funding for public schools. Insanity.

6. I can see Republicans going for Biden, but not Obama.
Most Republicans believe that we were right to go into Iraq, and they are hawkish in their views and vote accordingly.

8. Biden's available videos and speeches regarding "Sacred Obligation" to the troops
I agree, will resound loudly with the faction of republicans who are hawkish. I just sent the Sacred Obligation video to my Republican cousin last night and surprisingly, got a "THANK YOU" reply this morning. He is forwarding to all his republican coworkers at the ::coughs:: nuclear plant.

7. And a guy told me this morning his parents (from the north)
would always vote straight-ticket puke. They vote publican, he says, because the repubs 'look out for whites'.

*sigh*

9. Republicans are starting to get freaked out by their own party
and the basic reason is the extent to which they've been sold out to the ownership class. I heard a caller say that he voted for Reagan in 1980 because he felt things had swung too far toward the left; now he feels things have gone completely the other way and he doesn't think we can survive even four more years of the party he has been supporting for the better part of the last three decades.

Something's stirring out there...

10. Are you watching C span with this Democratic Fall meeting
This afternoon should be good, ending speeches with Hillary, Kucinich, Biden and Hillary are up this afternoon, and the calls were pretty interesting too. Funny the Democratic line for calls was not working and Dems were calling on the Republicans line.

11. I heard that caller & noticed the fake look of "WTF" on the moderator's face as he spoke.
It was good to hear that caller, an obviously older gentleman who was able to cite history & relate how much the Republican party has veered from its policies.

17. I think they are hearing common sense in the Dem debates and are latching onto it
while the corporate media promotes their distorted view of the debates.

19. Long-time Repub caller: supporting Hillary
On C-SPAN a couple of days ago. Actually sounded highly rational, which even disaffected Repubs mostly don't.

Opened me up to the possibility that:

- while your hardcore Republican is unlikely to ever vote Democratic because they are too entrenched, with too much animus drilled into them against Democrats, they might not vote, or maybe vote third-party, both of which they occasionally do

- a non Dem-hating but still Hillary-hating Republican might vote for another Democrat, maybe like Joe Biden or even Obama. This type seems rare enough. Usually Repubs who hate Dems hate all Dems.

- that there actually may be rational Republicans, like the proverbial 'Reagan Democrat', who might vote for Hillary as a perceived strong, authorative, 'corporate' style leader. I don't think Hill is corporate, she's a real progressive inside, but in terms of effective leadership style, she may win over fiscal Repubs like she has many in the business community.

I don't count on their votes, any more than I count on the votes of the Dem-hating left, but there may be some percentage there.

21. Agreed, but even if they stay home, that's a plus for Dems.
I don't care who they vote for, as long as they a) vote Democratic or b) don't vote at all :bounce:

23. Repugs would also be attracted to Biden because Biden has been
in the Senate for over 30 years, they figure "it's his turn" ..... This is their mindset and that's fine with me. Older, mature non-wingnut Repugs would definitely be attracted to Joe...
