Campaign splits Jacksons
LYNN SWEET
" 'Hillary is ready to lead,' says Jacqueline, whose activist husband, congressman son favor Obama"

November 30, 2007
BY LYNN SWEET Sun-Times Columnist

NEW YORK -- As Barack Obama stumped in Harlem on Thursday, Jacqueline Jackson endorsed Hillary Clinton, with the family of the Rev. Jesse Jackson divided over the two Democratic front-runners.

"Hillary is ready to lead on her first day in the White House and immediately begin delivering the change this country needs," Jacqueline Jackson told the Chicago Sun-Times.

>

Jackson Sr. wrote in his latest column he was disappointed in all the Democratic candidates -- except John Edwards -- for ignoring "the plight of African Americans in this country." One of his sons, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.( D-Ill.), is on the Obama campaign leadership team.

Another son who lives in Chicago, Yusef, is a major Clinton fund-raiser who has bundled together at least $100,000 in contributions.

Now his mother is also siding with Clinton and may go on the road to stump for her. If she goes to South Carolina -- where Jackson Sr. was born and where he won the 1988 presidential primary -- she will find herself having to dilute the impact of radio ads her son Jesse Jr. has made for Obama.

Jacqueline Jackson is an activist in her own right...

6. It Was An Insensitive Moment
That being said I don't think we should judge folks by their worst moment...

18. Not an isolated incident.
Jesse Jackson also went on a rampage complaining that "Jewish-controlled" Hollywood was shutting Black actors, actresses and directors out of film awards as part of a Holocaust-like conspiracy against African Americans.

And that wasn't just an off-handed comment.

He spent a couple media cycles on the talk show circuit flogging THAT horse.

And it came just as I had forgiven him for the Hymie Town comment, too.

10. Kucinich doesn't get a free pass on Ron Paul, and Jessee Jackson doesn't get one on racism either.

Being black is not a free pass on bigotry.

I don't care WHAT color someone is when they say and do the sorts of things Jesse Jackson has.

16. Thanks for not throwing me under the bus just yet.
For the record, I would dislike Jesse Jackson no matter WHAT color he was.

Except maybe bright green.

If he were bright green, I think the novelty of a bright green anti-semite might make him more entertaining than threatening.

"Hey, did you hear what that bright green guy said? Yeah, it's awful... but look at 'im... he's not just green, he's BRIGHT green!"
