We can't afford to waste time and resources defending New York which has the nation's most expensive and largest media market.

You can also bet that if Giuliani is running this strongly in solid blue New York against Obama, that Conneticut and New Jersey are also going to be dogfights.

2. That basically means he would kill Giuliani in the General
Think about it...Rudy's already a known quantity here and the best he can do is tie a relatively unknown quantity like Obama. Time is on Barack's side on this one, not Rudy's.

23. So that's two out of 43.
There may be others from way back. But not many.

Why then is it a big deal that Rudy is merely tied in his home state?

4. Good news for Obama.
Guiliani is already very well known in NY...he's a "hometown" boy.

Great numbers for Obama, and they will only move up as he becomes better known by the good peoplel of NY.

9. and if he does and Obama is our nominee
we are fucking screwed. We will have to spend tens of millions defending Kerry and Gore states that we should have in the bag.

13. Be skeptical of polls between a very well known and a lesser known
National polls have Huckabee only getting 35% to some Dems. I highly doubt the end result will be anywhere near that. In NY, everyone knows Dame Rudy and Clinton, but not everyone knows Obama. NY has a partisan voting index of +20 Dem. Presidential candidates usually get about a 10% boost in their homestate.

Unless we have an election like 1984, no dem is going to lose NY even if Dame Rudy is the nominee.

16. that's not the point
We may win it eventually but with Obama there will be a fight. NY will be in play. It will require tens of millions that could be better spent elsewhere. With hillary, there isn't that need to introduce her or campaign in NY. She trounces Rudy.

25. 1st off, lets try to have a candidate that can complete everywhere
then you don't have to worry about one state. 2nd, if Dame Rudy isn't the nominee, none of this matters. 3rd, we should never nominate someone just because they do well in one state. If you like Hillary, the NY thing is a plus. If you don't, then the NY thing should sway you towards her.

Hillary and Obama will both have electoral challenges in my opinion, unless the GOP nominates a totally weak candidate.

18. national polls mean nothing
or else gore would be our president as he won the popular vote in 2000 decisively.

It's all in the electoral college.

Even Kos says that zogby poll was a bullshit internet poll.

26. I am suspicious of all these match-ups showing any GOP-er outdoing any Dem
They look like the usual diebolding the public opinion to me. Obama is not my candidate, yet I have no doubt that he - like all the dems beat any of the GOP-ers. in an honest election, that is.
