Another campaign that focuses on a middle class that has disappeared along with a fictional bloc of GOP swing voters instead of the Democratic Party's base of working people will also fail to energize voters.

That's basically it. The GOP will focus on their base of government hating, tax whining, religious nuts. If the Democrats don't catch a clue and focus on our base, a base which has been slammed by bad conservative policies for the last 38 years, then they'll have another close election stolen from them.
