Trent Lott & Denny Hastert both to quit ..... Abramoff?
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 08:04 AM by Botany
Why?

My "total tin foil hat" makes me think that Jack Abramoff has gotten real
chatty w/ the FBI and they (Denny & Trent) have been told so they quit.

Both of them ran in 2006 and wanted leadership positions in the House or Senate
but now they are both getting out?

5. Wasn't that supposed to break weeks ago?

What's up with Larry? What a tease.

16. Just because it hasn't broken doesn't mean that it hasn't been spoken about
I sort of suspect that Larry may have been behind of some of these decisions to not seek another term. It would have been the right thing to do if he gave them a chance to answer the charges before they were printed.

3. And as dirty as the Dept. of Justice is I think (guess) that ....
..... they were told if they quit the cases would be dropped.

7. Yes, I can imagine a backroom deal where Trent walks away....
But what is this "due to stricter lobbying rules limiting his ability to raise funds?" meme they just reported on Morning Joe.

Does this mean that he is unable to operate in a legal manner?

10. What has happened to our country?
A long time ago my Dad took a 1.5 years leave from teaching
@ the University of Washington and worked @ the RNC when
Bill Miller was chairman and had a good friend who was in the
FBI ..... and it was his job to arrest "bad guys" and party had
nothing to do w/ it.

I asked my Dad the other day about those days and he said that
then many in government still had the idea of doing "the people's
work" back then. Democrats and republicans got along and
often spent time w/ each other's families. (Except for the hard line
segregationists).

6. Does anyone have the picture of Lott, Hastert, Larry Craig, all up in Alaska with Ted Stevens?
I can't remember where I saw it, but it was just this past week. Trent just looked darling in his V-neck sweater.

17. Yes! Thank you!
Lott does a V-neck on there. And that's them all with the CEO of VECO, Bill Allen.

Good times.

9. Or maybe he just wants to jump into the lobbying business...
The media is speculating the new law requiring a 2 year wait to enter lobbying comes into effect in January. Retiring now would let him go thru the revolving door with no wait.

14. There's still a wait - it's just shorter
It's one year now.

15. And, if he can influence the selection of his successor, he might be looking at many job offers.
If he can put a hand picked puppet in his place, K Street might be so tickled they would give a bonus. Hell, there might be a biding war to hire his services

If he leaves early so he can influence who gets his chair for a few months:

1) He has made a move at subverting the election process by making sure a puppet of his choosing has the incumbent advantage. (Nothing tin-foil there, done often enough in the past)

2) Keep an eye on what that newbie tries to get through and watch the $$ trail.

My most far fetched hope would be he is about to slam a door on bushco for hanging him out to dry on the Strom Thurmond thing. Probably just about getting a big-pay job, but sure would be nice if Lott were vindictive enough to have found a way to stick it to the junta for ol time's sake. Would love to see a healthy round of score settling among the GOP crooks and liars.

13. I just finished the book Follow the Money and
it was a great, although very disgusting and disheartening, read.
