Can I Get An Amen????
Dear Speaker Pelosi……IMPEACH DICK CHENEY
It has been rumored that Nancy Pelosi would put impeachment back on the table were she to receive 10,000 hand written letters encouraging her to do so. Whether this is a true statement or not we feel it would be a very powerful message to send the speaker and congress. Help us take thousands of letters to Nancy. Lets make this action our Miracle on 34th st. Our holiday present, accountability and justice. Dear Friends Instead of sending your Impeachment letters for Dick Cheney to Nancy Pelosi's office, send them to my office so we can get an official count. Please send them to: Nancy Pelosi c/o Cindy for Congress RE: Impeach Dick Cheney 1260 Mission St San Francisco, Ca 94103 We are extending the deadline to gather as many letters as possible. Please send your letter by Tuesday November 27th. Spread this far and wide so we can take sacks of letters to her. Don't include anything besides the letter (like a contribution) because we won't be opening the envelopes. Love, Cindy..... Sample Letter.... Dear Speaker Pelosi, I am writing to urge you to support House Resolution 333, Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Richard B. Cheney. Please consider your constitutional duty to step forward to protect our democracy from further harm. The heart of the current crisis is a Constitutional one. The American people elected a democratic majority to restore our system of checks and balances, the rule of law, and our international standing as an exemplar of democratic leadership and values in the world community. It has become clear to an ever-increasing majority of the American people that the President and Vice President are actively opposing progress in these endeavors. To date, the evidence of impeachable offenses is overwhelming: the Bush administrations' use of illegal wire tapping and other forms of electronic surveillance, violations of the U.N. Torture Convention and the Geneva Convention, torture and extraordinary rendition, signing statements, and war lies. These activities individually and certainly collectively warrant a complete immediate investigation by the Congress. As Speaker of the House, you can play a pivotal role in restoring our constitutional rights and preventing further abuses of power by the Executive branch by supporting HR333. Please don't betray us. Sincerely, ---------- www.cindyforcongress.org

7. It must have been copied from Word to webmail or something.
That does wild things to proprietary formatting.

10. It came to me in paragraph form
Must be this DUer's email program. The version I got was very easy to read, not jumbled together like this at all.

4. no thank you.
I send my communications to members of congress, directly to them. and i would never send anything through sheehan. furthermore, it's against du rules to support sheehan, and linking to her candidate website could easily be interpreted as support for her candidacy.

8. It would be of immense benefit to the core of the Democratic
Party to show some backbone and begin impeachment proceedings. Right now Congress' ratings numbers are in the dumpster, because they are not stopping the war or championing impeachment, which would bring back the rule of law. Rather, they are beholden to special interest groups including the military-industrial complex, and/or are being cowed by fears of * invoking martial law, launching conventional and/or nuclear attacks upon Iran, canceling the '08 presidential elections, or other unnamed reasons. Some say their isn't enough time to impeach, we should just let *'s junta quietly die on the vine the slow death of the lame duck. I tend to disagree, to put it mildly.

9. No
that's not why congress has low ratings with the american public. THat's why it has low ratings among many here on DU.

Most Americans don't support impeachment, and most Americans support the way Democrats are trying to end the war. Very few people want the Democrats to just cut funding.

11. rebuttal:
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today blamed Congress' failure to bring an end to the war in Iraq and deal effectively with the reform of immigration laws as the primary causes of the institution's near-record low approval ratings."

from http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/15/AR2007111501631.html?hpid=topnews

"Since Democrats took over Congress in January, there have been three major attributes characterizing their conduct: (1) a failure to stop or restrict the war in Iraq; (2) a general failure/unwillingness to stop Bush on much of anything else of significance (FISA, a failure to reverse any of the excesses of the GOP Congress, such as the Military Commissions Act, lack of limits on his ability to attack Iran, etc.); and (3) numerous investigations, sometimes flashly but thus far inconsequential. There is no rational way to argue that the numerous investigations (item (3)) are responsible for Congressional unpopularity given how overwhelmingly Americans want Congressional investigations of the administration."

They don't have the luxury of claiming there isn't enough time. Impeachment is their duty.

I read a great comment on another blog. The poster said she had a job and if she didn't complete her job during her work shift, she has to work overtime without overtime pay to finish her work. And she wondered why our elected reps didn't also have to work overtime to finish their work.
