Hillary is an underdog in Iowa
I agree with the recent analysis, Hillary is an underdog in Iowa. I think Obama and Edwards are the frontrunners there.

But I still don't think Iowa will matter much because Hillary will run the table on the other states.

So when Edwards or Obama win Iowa then it will make for good drama and news but then Hillary will reassert herself in the other states like New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina where she has been leading.

When an underdog is within striking distance, look out.

5. Hillary can lose
Iowa and still win hands down.
I doubt that if Obama loses Iowa
that he can come back and win. His overall poll
standings reflect this.

6. I Think The Opposite Is True
HRC has staked much on the "resistance is futile - accept my coronation" strategy. If she loses Iowa, that all goes out the window.

9. I don't know if she has staked
as much on the 'resistance is futile' as
the media and the republicans have.

7. If/when Hillary loses in Iowa, her "inevitability" image is shattered...
Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 12:43 PM by jenmito
If Obama wins, (Hillary's worst nightmare), he will sweep the table (especially since NH is only 5 days after that). If EDWARDS win, that's expected since he's been practically living in IA. If Edwards doesn't win in IA, it's all over for him and his support will go much more heavily to Obama than to Hillary. If Obama comes in 2nd, he's still in the race. He has more than enough money to continue.

11. I agree with you to an extent jen
I agree that Obama winning would be a worst case scenario for Hillary, but I don't think that would be the end for her. I think it would really depend on how much she loses by. I do agree that if Edwards loses Iowa, it's over for him. I think that for Obama/Hillary, Iowa won't necessarily be the "deciding factor" UNLESS they win/lose by an extreme margin.

If Hillary doesn't win in Iowa, it's not over for her (as it would be for Edwards) but it would give a great shot of momentum to Obama.

8. Hillary has no place to go but down in the polls.
People are catching on to her since the recent debates.

10. Since Clinton is doing well in post Iowa polls...
...there is a huge silver lining for her in polls now showing her slightly behind Obmama in Iowa. The worst thing that could happen to Clinton would be for most people to assume she was going to win Iowa only to then lose there. That would then be a downside surprise, which is the worst kind of momentum killer. The best thing that could happen for Clinton would be for polls to predict she will come in third in Iowa, and then for her to win there.

If polls predict a very close Iowa race with Clinton slightly trailing there and those polls turn out to have been accurate, chances are Clinton would still win in New Hampshire which would deflate any boost Obama, or Edwards would get from Iowa. Now if Richardson or Biden were to win Iowa or come in ahead of Clinton, that would really shake up the race. Same thing if Clinton comes in a distant third in Iowa.

12. You maybe right...I did some Iowa phone canvassing
And out of over 100 calls of registered Democrats, not one was voting for Hillary. I think she's probably just a media/DLC creation and nobody is going to vote for her but hardcore DLCers. Just my two cents.

17. Run the table.....?
Probably so. Here is a poll that hasn't hit the headlines. I don't know why.
