Politics at the Thanksgiving Dinner table
Interesting this year. My hard core (R) elderly relatives are (or were) in the 24%. I was shocked this year. To a one, they all went on various rants about the Bush Administration and the war, with the exception of my (R) mother. I think she still supports his lousy ass.

In years past, they put the man and his decisions on some kind of wack pedestal -- giving him a pass on blunder after blunder.

The liberals were all shocked. There is an undecided (my aunt), an Edwards supporter (me) and a Clinton supporter (my uncle).

The other 3 (aunt, uncle, my mom) are all Huckabee supporters.

Liberal (undecided) aunt brought up Hillary and said she loathes her and that the sound of HRC's voice sends chills up her spine -- she feels like she is being talked to like a puppy who just pissed on the carpet. The 3 (R)s chimed in as if she was satan incarnate. Liberal aunt then looked at liberal uncle and said, "make no mistake, 4 women at the table can't stand her. She can't win". Quite a leap, but you can tell they have had the conversation in the past.

It was an interesting (and fortunately, friendly) conversation although no one at the table seemed impressed with my choice. I think Liberal aunt is leaning to DK or possibly Biden. I have a few more months to work on them as we are in a late primary state.

1. I'll have an easier time of it
Thanksgiving is not a holiday here, but we put on a Thanksgiving dinner every
year the Friday after, as everyone has to work both days (including me--I was up
at 4 this morning to get the 6:20 plane down to Bavaria, ugh!).

One of my daughters will be there, but she'll be with 4 German friends (she is an
American citizen, but German native language), and all the 40+ crowd will be German
or Austrian (Republicans note--that is NOT the place where kangaroos live). No English
spoken, and not a friend of Bush or any other Republican to be found. No one, including
me, yet has a favorite in the American election, they just want the Democrats to win--as do I.

The woman on the left in the picture told me she is a lifetime pug, changing to Dem so she can vote Edwards.

7. Yeah...
But it's still early, Monkey Boy can do even worse in the 14 or so months he's got left. Maybe then their minds would start to change.

6. I mentioned Biden at our table,
Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 09:51 PM by NI4NI
and as expected, my younger know it all brother asked me "how could Biden ever think he had the expertise and qualifications to have intellegently challenged a SCOTUS nominee like Justice John Roberts with questions".....Without looking up from my plate, I replied, "It might be because Biden is a Constitutional Law Professor".

"He is?!?!" "But, but, but, Roberts was a Judge"!

What can you expect from someone who is looking forward to attending a Glen Beck booksigning?
