Seriously... why haven't the Republican candidates said a word about the Saudi rape victim?
They are all running on "Arabs are animals" and "Islam is a satanically inspired cult."

One might think that when the nation that brought us the 9/11 hijackers and the religion of Islam combine to do something utterly shocking to western sensibilities, it ought to be a free shot.

(The idea that they don't want to complicate US relations with Saudi Arabia would make more sense if they were ever responsible on any other topic.)

I am left to conclude that the Republican base will not tolerate any condemnation of torture of women, in any context.

They are just the Taliban.

1. Because they approve.
That's the only logical conclusion.

3. Well, now, that IS a question....
While I don't think even the most misogynistic RW fundie would agree with this travesty in any way, (and I will stress that point), neither do they believe in male:female equality... So, perhaps this just doesn't rise to the level that would "stimulate" their vocal disdain or "demand" their public outrage.

4. because they couldn't care less
whenever they raise hell over human rights abuses like this is when they are preparing to commit even worse ones, like waging aggressive war for the control of strategic oil resources.

5. Because no one really cares.
Most people in America don't care what goes on in other countries. Most people here couldn't care less about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed and displaced in this war. Hell, most people here don't care about our own as evidenced by Katrina. Expecting this to matter, particularly to the Republicans, is laughable.

8. hell...most americans don't care what happens here
anytime anyone gets abused or hundreds of people get arrested in a political rally, a whole host of Americans just yawn or say, "good...that'll teach those rabblerousers" and go on with their Applebee dinner plans.

9. I doubt that a typical Repblican found the punishment excessive
Indeed, the attitude of some of them toward women who have had abortions
indicates that some of them might have found the Saudi punishment mild.

11. Because rich, white, Christian Republics only care about themselves.
Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 07:11 PM by Joe Bacon
Not one single Christian Republic party memeber caes about anyone else except themselves.

Christian Republic Party members bullshit about Jesus but they follow Ayn as in Mine Rand's "Look Out for #1 and fuck everyone else" philosophy!
