So, is Al Gore going to run or not?
I think not. But are there still some people clinging desperately to the hope that he will toss his hat into the race? Just curious.

2. It is sad. He would have made a fine president.
I, for one, took him at his word when he stated he had no intention of running. But some people thought that left room for doubt.

8. I thought it did for a long while.
And I'm sure he thought long and hard about it but it has become obvious that he will not run, he's not going to save the day. He would be a tremendous President, even better now than he would have been had he assumed the Oval Office in 2001. And I think that's saying a lot. This country was robbed of Gore's leadership.

3. I'm Going to Start Leaving The Lights On Out of Spite
I can't believe he let me down. But on the up side, I finally feel free to wholeheartedly endorse Obama's campaign.

Obama basically said that Gore was welcome to a cabinet position as Secretary of Energy, and I can only imagine what wonders he could perform in that capacity.

5. Unfortunately, Gore said emphatically on Larry King that he would not accept any such position.
When asked about accepting a cabinet-type position , he said "No".
I have it on DVR.

4. I Sure Hope So! I Don't Like the Sound of "President Romney" or "President Ghouliani"
Without Gore, we are left with the unpalatable and the unelectable.

GORE FOR PRESIDENT

9. I would say the chance is less than 1%
Seriously - how could he run if some important States already closed the registration process for candidates to get on the primary ballot? :eyes:

For a very long time I have believed that Al Gore is the best person for the job.

From among the current candidates, my dream ticket would be BIDEN-OBAMA.

But pundits are telling me that Biden cannot win the nomination.

I like what Edwards is saying but he has consistency and credibility issues.

I like some of what Obama is saying but I'm not sure if he is ready yet.

I have my doubts about Hillary but she is very smart and a skilled debater.

Hmmm ... It is kind of a shame that Al Gore is not in the frame for 2008.

10. YES !!
But as Edward's VP !!

Think outside the box ... an untraditional campaign. There's no reason at all that he couldn't run as Edward's VP. Since VP is largely ceremonial, Al could concentrate almost FULL TIME on the Environment, but this time with the FULL BACKING of the administration. The missed filing deadlines are now irrelevant .. he could campaign as little or as much as he'd like. Only one VP debate...

Edwards is the closest to him politically ( no nukes - sorry Obama ), and Al joining the ticket would shoot Edwards to the forefront ( where he seems to be headed anyway lately ). I'll be watching Gore & Edwards closely during the NH environmental debate. Then waiting for the bombshell announcement soon after.

And then in 8 years ... President Gore (again)!

11. Not possible.
He made a definitive statement that he will not serve as VP or a cabinet member. He did not leave that open to speculation, unlike his "no plans" statement about the presidency. I seriously doubt he would put his credibility on the line for a demotion.

15. I like Gore as a person and politician
but seriously people...I don't get the Gore hoopla. he was SO boring the first time around. Why is he all of a sudden the Messiah of the nation and the only one that can run?

Am I missing something?

17. Because he would have been the most competent of all current potential nominees
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 10:21 AM by closeupready
with a very long record to back it up. And he had already won once.

20. not sure about even that
I'd think Dennis Kucinich would also be someone who would be very competent. He just suffers from the "he is he electable" curse. But he's competent.

I'll give you that he won once, though.

And what I also like about him is that he has integrity and courage. Would be great to see him get the nomination. :hi:

16. I suppose a draft is still a possibility, albeit an unlikely one.

scenario: hillary, obama, and edwards beat each other bloody throughout
the primaries, and no one wins the enough delegates to secure the
nomination. and in a factious, brawling convention, the party turns
to gore.
