At the risk of starting another Hillary Clinton flame war....
Edited on Mon Nov-19-07 09:42 AM by KC2
Has it occurred to anybody else, if she is this divisive to Democrats (and you can see the flame fest in LBN as an example), how... how is she electable?

Don't get me wrong. I think Hillary is very bright.. and would make a good president. I really do. Still-- I want a Democratic candidate who is electable.

Please excuse me if this is too political for the Lounge. I'm afraid to post it anywhere else.

:scared:

1. As always, DU does not represent a random sample taken from a population at large

Views on DU are not indicative...yada yada yada.

10. There's no "hope" involved, it's simple statistics
A non-randomly selected sample never shows anything relevant to the population. It's why DUers continue to express shock at how well she does in general when she is a pariah on this site; the sample is biased.

2. I don't think she's all that devisive to D.
I do not think DU is in any way representative of the D. party as a whole. Frankly, one of the lessons of 2000 is that the far left (to the extent the USA has one) cannot be counted on anyway, so it is better to play to the center.

This is one of the things that bothers me.

Now is the time to speak up.

7. Ahhh because I know that whoever the
nominee is, I will vote for him/her, regardless.

She is not my first choice, as you can tell from my avatar, but que será, será...

14. It's primary season so I can't think of any Democrat that doesn't create a flame fest here
I use to think it was sad to see what we do to our own candidates here, but now I just sort of accept it as something I will never be able to control and I delude myself into believing it just makes them tough enough for the bigger battles to come.

Like I've said before...wake me up when the primaries are over and point me to the surviving Democrat.

17. Republicans are dead meat
Whoever gets the Democratic nomination should sweep the general election, given how badly Cheney/Bush have screwed up the economy and everything else.

Hillary could eat at Olive Garden and still get elected.

Or drive around in a big SUV.

18. I wouldn't discount her chances
She won reelection quite handily in New York, even upstate which is generally more conservative than the city. Not that New York is the country by any means.

I think the Republicans are so pathetic as a group that any Democrat should win, unless they totally screw up somehow. It is true that the Republicans will fling any and all mud but we have heard most of it before. There is no new mud. Sure, she's made a few missteps (but they all have). I am not a huge fan but I am reasonably okay with her being President, for the simple reason that her appointments to the Supreme Court and other courts will not be complete knuckle-draggers. That is as much as I am hoping for. We will not leave Iraq anytime soon, no matter who is elected. None of them will do anything about global warming because (with the exception of Kucinich) they are ALL beholden to corporate interests to a large degree. Electing a Democrat and increasing our hold on Congress will only delay the inevitable. In fact, we are so far down the road to hell that I am not sure even if we somehow brought FDR back from the grave that we can come back from it.

22. Progressive Democrats call her a conservative and rpugs call her a liberal...
and she really is more often than not a moderate. A moderate is needed to win.

24. I don't know how she plays in Blue States but she's ballot poison in Texas. She'd cost us plenty of
downballot races if she were to lead our ticked.

The Republicans in Texas are disheartened about their choices for nominee. They will stay home in droves unless we give them a reason to show up at the polls. Beating Hillary is the only think that could drag many of these numbskulls to the ballot box.
