It's not hard to talk bad about "Washington insiders." Everybody does it. Even the Republicans do it, trying to convince voters that certain Dems, for example, are part of the "establishment" that Americans have grown to distrust.
But the "establishment" isn't really the politicians. They WORK for the "establishment." Or, at least, a fair portion of them do. They do the bidding of the representatives of powerful lobbying groups, like Big Oil, Banks and Credit Companies, Pharmaceutical companies, the Insurance industry, and even large retail chains who make most of their money by purchasing cheap goods and importing them.
When a candidate stands up and points DIRECTLY at these powerful groups and says "THESE are the folks who are screwing the average American" it's more than your ordinary politician jockeying for position. That politician is declaring a lasting enmity with these agencies, telling tales "out of school," as it were.
There's a point past which it can't be faked because beyond it you've suddenly revealed more to the American People than they ever wanted revealed. You've become a liability and they'll do ANYTHING to silence your voice before you have the chance to go any farther, to say anything even more damning to the status quo.
It's even worse when it's a candidate who has a chance at gaining popular support, who can climb down into the muck with the lower classes and identify with them on a personal level, who can say "I know where you come from because I come from there too. I'm one of you."
Once you're on that train, you've purchased a one-way ticket. You ride the rail as far as it'll take you, and hope it takes you to your ultimate destination. Because it's full-speed ahead and forget the brakes.
Sincerity? Better hope so, because past a certain point, there is no discernable difference between sincerity and faking it. You'll have tied yourself to the tiger's back and the only choice is to go wherever the tiger takes you.
If the American people ever actually catch on to what's been done, and who's benefited from it the most at their expense, we'll see a political bloodbath. And the worst nightmare for those behind it is to face a politician who can speak the truth to the people and have them listen.
And the people are starting to listen. There are some very powerful people who are hoping that they can find some way to silence the candidate who's doing the finger pointing. If they can't...the free ride will be over.
