Steney Hoyer Attacks Obama for daring to Challenge Clinton in the debate
wow, stacking the audience, threatening CNN and Blitzer was not enough. Now Hillary has her cronies come out and say that the other candidates are not to challenge 'She who must not be questioned'

Nov. 16 (Bloomberg) -- House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer said the acrimonious tone of recent Democratic presidential debates may hurt the party's prospects in 2008.

``I've been disappointed,'' Hoyer, 68, said in an interview on Bloomberg television's ``Political Capital with Al Hunt,'' scheduled to air tonight. ``I think it will hurt the party.''

He took particular exception to Illinois Senator Barack Obama's assertion in a Las Vegas debate yesterday that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton hadn't given ``straight answers'' on ``a host of issues.'' Hoyer said that comment is ``likely to get used by Republicans'' in the general election.

Clinton, a New York Democrat, has come under increasing attack from her chief rivals for the Democratic nomination, Obama and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, whom she accused last night of ``throwing mud.''

Returning to the presidential campaign, he said Democratic candidates should refrain from attacking each other and focus instead on ``the very significant disagreements we have with the Bush administration.''

``I like Reagan's rule applied to his party: speak no ill of Republicans,'' Hoyer said. ``I don't like it when our party, that agrees on 95 percent of the issues, so exacerbate the nuances of differences.''

1. The Clinton-Lieberman wing of the party is our curse for looking the other way
throughout the 90s when we were all so busy defending a Dem president that we hardly noticed that Poppy Bush was escaping all of his crimes of office and without scrutiny of congress BushInc would be growing stronger than ever.

2. The way I look at it...
If people like Hoyer think it's tough now, then they will be totally unprepared for the general election cycle beyond the primaries.

About the only thing I do think the Dems could be doing better is tossing mud at the Rethuglicans. Biden's mantra about Guiliani only being able to speak in three word sentences should be repeated again and again.

3. I have a good solution...
Especially regarding this paragraph:

"He took particular exception to Illinois Senator Barack Obama's assertion in a Las Vegas debate yesterday that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton hadn't given ``straight answers'' on ``a host of issues.'' Hoyer said that comment is ``likely to get used by Republicans'' in the general election."

Let's not nominate her to BE in the general election. Problem solved. He's playing right into the RW playbook of Karl Rove and the Repub. candidates who talk about the best way/best person to beat Hillary. DON'T NOMINATE HER!

11. It pre-supposes that Clinton WILL be the candidate
And I don't think that it's his place to comment this way.

4. i am not sure that i like s. hoyer ... and as for challenges and disagreements ...
isn't that how things get aired out and ironed out ... especially if they are done honestly ... that is not like the pack of lies that the bushes and their propaganda media like to throw out there.

5. He wants everyone to bow down to her and coronate her.
It's a shame that politicians don't know how democracy works.

it is a darn shame ... and as far as bowing down and crowning her ... he can stuff it!

i will give hillary my vote ... only if i think she truly deserves it... and that will come out through honest and open debates ... whether or not there will be an open and honest election to receive the vote--that is another matter.

8. But thats beside the point.
Also it's beside the point that noone has proof that Hoyer is a Hillary cronie.

Anyone who disagrees with Obama must be for Hillary. :eyes:

9. I sure agree with him on this:
``I like Reagan's rule applied to his party: speak no ill of Republicans,'' Hoyer said. ``I don't like it when our party, that agrees on 95 percent of the issues, so exacerbate the nuances of differences.''

And I cringe to think of Republicans using "hasn't given straight answers" on "a host of issues" in the general election. It's one of those non-specific mudballs that stick to the wall so fucking well when the Republicans start using them.
