I've always believed the sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts. That's why I'm an advocate for a progressive tax system that allows us to pool our resources to acquire goods and services we couldn't afford otherwise.

There are those who disagree with me. They claim taxes are a bad deal, and they could best decide how to spend their money.

Who makes the better claim?

As they say, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating."

What do I get for my state and local tax dollars?....

1. I like the idea of asking them why they don't want to hire their

personal police and fire protection. Surely, it would be better than sharing public protection. They are obviously only interested in sharing the cost of something that benefits them.
