Gov. Bill Richardson at the Las Vegas debate said, "what we
need is an energy revolution" like the industrial revolution only in terms of energy. He's right about this. We need to revolutionize how we behave in terms of our energy usage. I know, I know, duh...Captain Obvious strikes again. Still, his comment was spot on I think. I wish I believed that we would bring this about but I have my doubts.

1. yes...
One can not be mired in the past, but I can't help wondering how much different (and far to the better), our country and the world would be had Carter's attempts to put the US on the path to energy independence not been dismantled by Reagan and his successors. It slays me that the press plays into the denigration of Carter by the RW. Carter saw the big picture for what it was and is.

2. We can if we have a President to push it...
And big enough majorities in the House and Senate.

I'm probably hoping for nothing.... but I really wish Richardson ends up being Pres.!

3. This is the greatest failure of the Bush administration, IMO.
After 9/11 they had public support for anything. They could have initiated an Apollo style program for alternative energy, and we'd almost be there by now. Instead we chose to stand for torture, pre-emptive warfare, and tax cuts for the rich.

5. Did we have an energy revolution under Clinton?
No! We did not. Clinton did not focus on energy. He was a popular president. Had he done so, we would be free from much of the terrorist threats and far, far better off environmentally and economically. Clinton missed his chance. He really missed a huge opportunity. Our children and grandchildren will pay for this. Had Clinton rallied the country around a really creative, exciting energy development plan, Bush would never have been close enough to election to be appointed by the Supreme Court. Too much compromise is a bad thing. Clinton compromised too much on energy.

6. You just couldn't resist a slam at Clinton could you.
In spite of his success as President. By the way, if I'm not mistaken Bill Richardson was his Energy Secretary. Could be there was work being done that just never came to light due to the Reps constant obcession with sex, and mud throwing. Not unlike some on DU.
