Singers Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt backing Edwards

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Singer and songwriter Jackson Browne says Democrat John Edwards is the most progressive candidate with a chance at winning the White House, and that he would do the most for working-class Americans.

Browne, talking in a telephone interview with The Associated Press, says he thinks it's a critical time for the country -- and that John Edwards is the man to lead the country.

Famous for hits including "Running on Empty," "Doctor My Eyes," "Somebody's Baby" and "The Pretender," Browne will be joined by Grammy award winning singer and songwriter Bonnie Raitt early next week at 5 of Edwards' campaign stops in Iowa.

The two musicians are co-founders of Musicians United For Safe Energy, along with Graham Nash and John Hall.

I've been leaning Obama the entire time, and never been all that impressed with JE, but I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for Obama - I still like him, just not as much, and after watching the debates, I find I like JE better than I used to, although I really wish Joe Biden would jump higher in the polls. I did like when Edwards brought up the neocons in the last debate.

It would not be a problem for me at all to vote for JE - I mainly want to vote in the primary for the person who has the best chance of beating the annointed one, and it seems like it's just starting to get interesting now - I don't think I'll know who it will be for quite a while yet, or if, in fact, she'll remain the annointed one at all.

122. Actually, I doubt it very much since Jackson was a notorious ladies man

back in those days, and Geffen hadn't come out of the closet yet - I've probably read everything there is to read about JB, and I've read a book or two about Geffen, as well.

The story is: Jackson sent Geffen a tape, with an 8x10, Geffen tossed it out, his secretary thought Jackson was cute, took the tape out, listened to it, and told Geffen maybe he should give it a listen. Geffen did, and was knocked out by it. I think Jackson was the first artist he discovered, with Laura Nyro possibly being the 2nd.

At the time, Geffen was into developing artists, spending the money and time that managers and record companies don't do these days. Geffen went on to "discover" most of the famous Southern California singer/songwriters/rockers, and formed his own label so the artists could have more freedom, I think. He befriended all his artists, and advanced them money until they were ready to record.

Not that it would matter to me, but having been a JB fan since 1973, this is the first time I've ever seen that rumor, and I've read just about EVERYTHING!

They've both been political activists for years, and working for social change as well. Jackson Browne probably does more benefit concerts than he does concerts for financial gain. JB wrote the song back in 1986, or thereabouts. It's more relevant today than it was then, but, as you will see, he is, and has been, quite aware of what's going on in this country, and has been doing his part for decades to try to change it.
