Nevada's Day in the Sun Was Blinded
Nevada's Day in the Sun Was Blinded

I sent the following to every paper I know.

It didn't hit me until today. I attended Thursday's CNN Nevada Debate for Democratic candidates held at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. I was the fly on the wall next to the upper crust of the corporate and political hierarchy--not just from Nevada but elsewhere in the country.

I'm not sure why I was fortunate enough to get a ticket. No matter. Most of those attending were dressed for the donor's dinner after the event. It explains why the audience was made up of well heeled, corporate and political movers and shakers, some actors, the target audience of undecided voters, and me.

I sat next to two young couples with Bono's One Campaign. Whenever we clapped for our candidates, most of the audience remained quiet. The main audience savored every word Hillary Clinton spoke and jeered when John Edwards mentioned lobby and corporate campaign money.

Here's the rub. Americans thought they were watching a debate with an audience from Nevada. The man next to me was from North Carolina and a lady in the parking lot was from Wisconsin. Include corporate and individual sponsors attending from all over the country. This left the entire television audience blinded to the reality of who actually occupied the seats at our state's first CNN debate.

Is this a democratic process? Corporate audiences get to cheer on their corporate candidate? Where was the middle and poor classes of Nevada--outside as usual?

Send this to your local newspaper wherever you are so that everyone understands just how riggged these debates can be.

1. Can't John Edwards Just Admit Hillary Handed His Head To Him
It reminds me of whiny sports fans whining that their team lost because of the referees...

2. It's sad to watch Edwards implode like this, pointing fingers as he goes down
He's basically sitting in the middle of the floor throwing a tantrum so everyone will pay attention to him.

I almost feel sorry for him, embarrassed for him.

9. As soon as Hillary admits Edwards handed her head to her in Philly...
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 12:18 PM by ClarkUSA
With an able assist of Dodd and Obama, of course.

Oh, the whining and kvetching afterwards!

"It reminds me of whiny sports fans whining that their team lost because of the referees..."

Ironic you should say that, as we all look back on the past 2 dizzying weeks of Hillaryworld's blame gaming
since she screwed up during the Philadelphia debate.

11. I'll Play
When it was Russert, Obama, Edwards, and Dodd against Hillary she took a bit of a beating... But when it was her and Edwards mano a mano she took his head off...Go to the 55 second mark...The guy in the white trunks was John Edwards:

13. They Said Clinton Was A Parser- "Slick Willy"
And Slick Willy was only one of three Democratic presidents to serve two full terms in the entire twentieth century...

I will admit that HRC was off her game in the Phili debate and gave an answer on "illegal driver's licenses" that could easily be lampooned if you admit that she now has Obama's and Edwards' scalps in her closet...

The Phil debate was an abberation... HRC can not only give a punch...More importantly she can take one:

14. No scalps were taken.
Obama was questioned by Woof the way Russert questioned Clinton, only Clinton flipflopped and Obama
didn't. They both got bruised, Clinton more so because of her flipflopping more than anything else.
Edwards came out fine despite Clinton trying to smear him by comparing his criticisms to "mudslinging
... out of a Republican handbook."

Obama did fine throughout the rest of the night. So did Edwards. So did Clinton and the others.

See how easy it is to be fair?

15. How Is It Fair To Say Someone Who Got Their Head Handed To Him Did Fine ?
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 01:08 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Edwards said Hillary was corrupt and Hillary said he took pages right out of the GOP playbook...If he tries that again it will be worse unless HRC wants to keep him around to split the anti-HRC vote...

HRC is a fighter...She relishes the combat...

17. He said she accepted money from lobbyists.
That is the truth, not a page out of the GOP playbook. It's a page out the Hillaryworld playbook
to accuse any top rival of "echoing Republican talking points" (f*ck Phil Singer!!) or taking a page
out of the Republican playbook or mudslinging the minute they say anything critical. It reminds
me of how Republicans would accuse Democrats of being unpatriotic if they questioned the Iraq
war in any way after 9/11. It won't work in Iowa or NH. That's why she's sliding in the polls
in both those states. Mudsling and swiftboat away, Hillary!

20. I agree that Edwards needs to stop attacking.
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 09:32 PM by bigwillq
He really just needs to promote his vision of what the country would be like in an Edwards administration.

I do think that Clinton did very well. But I don't think Edwards "got his head handed to him" or "imploded".

I don't think Edwards did that poorly. He did better than Obama, imo.

Edwards was really strong when he talked about Corporate America, Bush, Cheney and the Neo-Cons.

It has nothing to do with Edwards. I'm just sick and tired of the Clintons.

16. lmao, this is nothing but a poster from a blog who doesn't even attach his real name to the article
There isn't a newspaper in the couuntry that would ever carry a story like this, served up by some anonymous poster.

Malloy, do you ever post anything that's an original thought from your own brain, other than one whiney post after the other, complaining how your so upset over Edwards getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter by Hillary? Sore loser.

19. Hey dumbfecks, I live here. this debate was rigged!
First of all, get it through your heads now that Harry Reid's son is the Clark County Commission Chairman in Las Vegas and chairs Clinton's Nevada campaign. What does that mean? They were behind the failed Nevada Faux News debates that would have been a blessing for Clinton if they had happened with Faux smearing Edwards and Obama the way they have. Don't think for one minute that Harry Reid doesn't control the Nevada Democratic Party. He has for years. We don't get a primary this year. We get a caucus and most people in Nevada work in mines and casinos and won't be able to go. Let alone most people in Nevada aren't used to going to caucuses. Hillary will win Nevada with the help of the Reid machine. We are so fecked here.
