Chris Matthews On Hillary Clinton - "I Hate Her" On Gore -"He Doesn't Look Like One Of Us"
NICHOLAS (6/3/01): In 1994, Ailes hired Matthews for a show on NBC's "America's Talking" network. Ailes later moved him to CNBC, where Hardball was born.

"He had a natural sense of moral outrage," said Ailes, now chairman of Fox News.

The outrage is no put-on. Aboard a recent shuttle flight to Washington, Matthews spotted New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. Earlier in the day, he'd been complaining privately that, as first lady, she'd rejected a health-care plan that would allow nurses to give care to public school students because it was "too narrow-bore."

"In other words, 'I'm not going to get enough credit for this,' " Matthews told a colleague in the cafeteria of MSNBC headquarters in North Jersey. "Madonna won't get flowers brought to her. I hate her. I hate her. All that she stands for."

Later that year, he said this to Don Imus, speaking of Gore: "He doesn’t look like one of us. He doesn’t seem very American, even.” In short, Matthews has always been a nasty nut-case—and his lunacy bears a strong partisan animus. Do you see why it’s so astounding? That our “liberal” journals have never written a profile which even begins to describe and critique who and what this strange man really is?

5. Indeed...it was terrible how they had two former Clinton advisors and two Republicans
praise Hillary's debate performance the other night.

And if that's not enough for you, you can always watch Keith Olbermann and Craig Crawford prop your girl up on the other station.

Wake up.

7. OK
I did think MSNBC was hostile and CNN was somewhat sympathetic... Some folks are offended when they see somebody ganged up on and perhaps Wolfie, John Roberts, and Campbell Brown sub-consciously did just that...

That being said, their job is not to damage and then repair the candidates...Their job is to report the news...

9. We agree there
our market-based media will always dissapoint us on the professionalism front. It's a big reason why so many of us take refuge in forums like this.

4. Next time Clinton or Gore get the chance, they should turn the tables on him
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 10:37 AM by mtnsnake
and ask him about those very words he said back then. If assholes like Matthews and Russert can make a fortune by making politicians eat their past words, then those same assholes should be made to eat their words, too.

6. Meanwhile, he loves all that Bush stands for (and all that Bush sits on)
In A Three Minute Monologue, Matthews Gushes Over Bush’s ‘Great Neo-Conservative Mind’

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/08/09/matthews-bush-monologue/

Immediately following President Bush’s press conference today, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews spent three unbroken minutes fawning over the president’s “powerful rendition” of his “philosophy” without uttering a single critical word. “I thought in listening to the president, I was listening to one of the great neoconservative minds,” gushed Matthews.

Calling Bush “powerful” on three separate occasions, Matthews marveled at the president’s defense of his foreign policy:

We were given a rare opportunity to hear the real philosophy of this administration with regard to the war in Iraq. A powerful rendition by the president of why we’re there. When he talked about the fact that we can support emerging democracies in the Middle East, and that’s the only way we can prevent future 9/11’s, you’re getting to the heart of why this administration is fighting that war in Iraq.

“This president is ready to fight like a rock through the rest of his term,” Matthews proclaimed. “He made it clear that he’s going to fight as long as it takes to develop a democracy in Iraq. There’s not going to be any change come September.”

Bush’s comments today, which contained at least one untrue assertion, were nothing more than a rehashing of his tired old rhetoric. Yet somehow, Matthews, who is labeled a liberal by partisan conservatives, only saw it through rose-colored glasses.

Matthews’ monologue is unsurprising, however, given his long record of hero worship for Bush and his supposedly “powerful” presidency:

– “We’re proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who’s physical.” 5/1/03

– “Sometimes it glimmers with this man, our president, that kind of sunny nobility.” 10/25/05

– “I like him. Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left.” 11/28/05

– “A little bit of Lincoln there, I think,” referring to Bush finally admitting that telling Iraqi insurgents to “bring it on” in 2003 “sent the wrong signal to people.” 5/25/06

Given the president’s track record with the truth on Iraq, Matthews should check his uncritical awe at the door.

UPDATE: Media Matters catches Matthews lamenting over the lack of “big, beefy” and “every-way big” guys in the Democratic presidential race.
