Memo to Dems: Sometimes decisions are difficult
Until the Democrats realize that sometimes there is not a comfortable political position - that sometimes we have to make unpopular decisions - that sometimes you cannot escape a confrontation - they will continue to be abused and maligned.

When they say they are not going to fund the war in Iraq, they can't say that just to be blowing smoke, as a bluff to try to get the White House to compromise. It won't work. They have to be ready to do it. They have the power. They just have to choose to use it.

It's not an easy decision. However, if they use the Constitution as their North Star, they will always be on firm ground. Sometimes there is no easy answer. Sometimes you have to take political gambles.

When you say that there will be no immunity for the telecommunications companies, there has to be some follow-up. When you are fighting someone without scruples, the only response they understand is a stiff uppercut to the jaw.

Many Democratic voters are tired of watching Charles Atlas kick sand in the faces of the Congress and Senate. They thought they would get change in the last election. However, they have been very disappointed up to this point. There is still time to save the Democrats in the next election. However, there is no escaping confrontation with this President. Accept that truth. When you pick your fight, be ready to take it all the way.

1. Greatness never comes by being uncontroversial
the greatest Presidents and members of congress were those who made decisions that weren't all that popular at the time. And they are remembered for their courage and foresight.

2. That has been the great failure of this Party lately..
They're are too cautious politically. They end up with nothing.

3. Yes, but sad to say, they had to get elected first.
I understand the point made on this thread and mostly I agree with it. The problem is having our greatest ideals smeared, distorted and lied about by the great republican smear machine. I think we will win because we have the best ideas to solve the problems of most of the voters: health care and the war in Iraq being at the top of the list. The repubs can't compete and they know it, so it'll be smear, smear, smear every time we try to take those stands. I'm not saying don't do it, just be smart about it.
