Editor of Nevada newspaper endorses - BIDEN

http://www.lvcitylife.com/articles/2007/11/08/opinion/coffee_and_outrage/iq_17751497.txt

Biden is one of the most qualified people to seek the presidency in years, certainly far more qualified than the current occupant of the White House.

It matters even more what the candidate has to say than how he says it. And Biden passes that test as well. He's clearly the most experienced candidate in the field when it comes to foreign policy, and after eight years of Bush's misadventures abroad, we're going to need somebody with an unquestionable background. Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia and China all loom large on the world stage, each with its own problems and each with its own impact on the United States. Whomever we elect has to be nimble enough to deal with those nations.

Plus, it wouldn't hurt electing somebody president who's going to show America doesn't aspire to rule the world as much as be a part of it. Biden can do that.

But it's not just overseas that Biden can do good things. He's got a realistic plan for health care (and, to be fair, its features mirror those of some other Democratic candidates). He's got a plan for education that includes retaining good teachers (and that means paying them what they're worth) and reducing class sizes, which is a surefire way to help students do better in school. (He's also proposing a $3,000-per-year tax credit to attend college, which isn't a bad start until a way can be found to make all college tuition fully tax deductible.)

When it comes to labor, Biden supports the Employer Free Choice Act, which is a welcome change to the Republican war on anything that might empower an individual, from trial lawyers to organized labor. The act would make it easier for unions to organize workplaces, the way many are organized in Las Vegas, where the Culinary Union Local 226 and others have helped to sustain this city's middle class.

Unlike Bush, Biden wouldn't try to privatize Social Security, which anybody who's watched his 401(k) performance in recent months knows is a good idea. But he's also got some incentives for workers to save money so they won't have to rely as much on Social Security.

Nevada Democrats have an embarrassment of riches this year: A host of candidates, most of whom would make excellent presidents and more than capably answer the eventual nominee of the Republican Party.

Of those Democrats, however, one stands out, and that's Biden. Nevada Democrats pondering who to support in January would do well to give him a look

2. And yet another excellent endorsement. And accurate too!
Good lord, Democrats need to think these issues through. The 3 front runners have the least experience. Our judgment thus far has been faulty, but there's still time for us to grow up. Joe Biden is will make us all very proud once again. He already does.

3. Excellent
I hope that other members of this board will give him serious consideration.
I simply do not see anyone else that is as qualified.

18. I know I'm starting to take another look. So far, of course, Kucinich is
my favorite. But, yes, I do worry about his electability, and what kind of cooperation he'd get from congress if he was elected. I like Edwards next, but I have the same cooperation-of-congress concern about him, too. Biden is a little too conservative for my tastes, but I think he's a good man. He isn't pushing a populist message, which I regret. But....I'm looking at him more closely. He's definitely electable.

Anybody but Billary or Obama. Both are too corporate happy.

7. He held himself like a President ...and I am a John Edwards supporter.
But I must say, I have tremendous respect for all the candidates to want to lead a nation that has been ravished by the bush administration.

10. Bless your heart. You appear in every thread about Biden with your GOOGLE
BIDEN 2005 BANKRUPTCY BILL warning.

EVERYBODY on this blog is aware of the bill, all its amendments, every nook and cranny. It's been discussed and argued COUNTLESS times.

Trust me, there is no new shocking info that you can lay on us.

If you want to attack Joe, there are other, less worn-out issues from which to choose. Feel free to ask us or anyone on the blog. We'll be happy to clue you in so you can spin your wheels in a new direction.

And welcome to DU :hi:

See you soon, no doubt.

15. There have been debates and arguments (at times name calling) on every
hot topic regarding ALL the candidates. And it seems like the same old arguments and opinions are repeatedly cited. The end result is we each go our own way with the same belief we did when we entered the discussion. It can be aggravating and infuriating and pumps up your blood pressure. They ARE always lively, though! :7

11. You mean the one that changed the
rules from keeping wealthy people wealthy, to making them pay their Bills? That one? The one that forces your child support payments to go before your credit cards? that one???

19. As I said before.....
People shouldn't accept credit accounts if they can't/don't want to pay them. I agree with the BK bill, and people shouldn't look to the govt. for a bail-out. There are far too many people who rack up thousands on credit cards, then default on them. BK was way too easy for people to do. Be responsible, pay your debts, and this bill will never have an effect on you, or any other responsible person.

17. just for clarification
City life is not a newspaper. Its a left leaning weekly free paper. Not that the endorsement should be touted any less proudly.

I was pleased and suprised to see the endorsement last week. I very much enjoy reading city life.

Its not really a newspaper though, it's more of a collection of opinion pieces each week.
