I'm Surprised When Bad Imports From China Comes Up That No One Holds The....
U.S. company that puts its name on it responsible. In my mind it is the U.S. company that commissioned the product in the first place that should be the ones that get the brunt of the criticism if their product is ultimately recalled.

It is their responsibility to first set specifications for their products being made by a foreign manufacturer or for that matter any manufacturer. Before they release the product to the U.S. public - it should be inspected by them and if it doesn't meet their specifications - it should be rejected and scrapped.

If this were done - the Chinese manufacturer would have to make sure that they weren't using lead paint, etc.

No defective or substandard product should be able to hit the U.S. market. It should be stopped before it even is paid for by the U.S. company that commissioned the manufacture of it.

I'm surprised that no presidential candidate has taken this stance.

2. I think it was Biden brought that up... sort of.
He talked about how the Japanese send in their own inspectors and refuse to let things ship out of China if their specs aren't met.

He didn't quite go as far as your suggesting, though, as far as tarring the importer for defective merchandise.
