Tancredo ad links porous borders to terrorism

By Klaus Marre | Posted: 11/12/07 4:36 p.m.
November 12, 2007

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) unveiled a television ad Monday that shows a terrorist preparing to blow up a shopping mall.

In the spot, a hooded figure is carrying a backpack filled with explosives into a mall; the ad ends with the sound of an explosion. In the ad, which will initially air in Iowa but will also be shown in New Hampshire and nationally, Tancredo is linking terrorism to the country’s porous borders.

<snip>

“The consequences of uncontrolled immigration are far more serious than our leaders want us to believe,” Tancredo stated in unveiling the ad. “The safety of Americans and the security of our way of life are on the line. We need action now.”

<snip>

“There are consequences to open borders beyond the 20 million aliens who have come to take our jobs,” a narrator says. “Islamic terrorists now freely roam U.S. soil, Jihadists who froth with hate, here to do as they have in London, Spain, Russia.”

Before the explosion is heard and the screen fades to black, the narrator indicates that a terrorist attack is the “price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to kill.”

1. Yep, this guy is a raging f**ktard. But how hard would it be for
someone dead set on a terrorist act to just mosey in across the border. North or South?

4. About as hard
if not harder than someone dead set on a terrorist act who was born and raised right here in the good ol' US of A. Yee-haw!

6. Why run the risk?
The border may not be airtight, but there's always a decent chance of being apprehended by the Border Patrol - they pick up illegal border crossers by the hundreds every single day. If you're a member of al Qaeda or some other well-funded, well-organized terrorist group, there's no need to run that great or small risk of getting caught and screwing up your group's plans: you've got plenty of state-of-the-art fake documents that will allow you to pass through any airport inspection anywhere in the world and be welcomed with a smile. Don't forget - every one of the al Qaeda guys who took out the World Trade Center entered legally with properly issued visas and documents that withstood the scrutiny of every state and federal agency which reviewed them. Those same documents would withstand the same scrutiny even under today's more paranoid standards. Therein lies the problem: unless you plan to shut off altogether all cross border trade, all tourism, all scholastic exchange, everything, and lock up the entire country tighter than Fort Knox, you're never going to be able to prevent someone from a terrorist organization from entering the country.

3. Out of all the candidates, I think he scares me the most...
not because he has a chance to win the GOP nomination (thank goodness even THEY see he's bat shit crazy) but on a personal level, I would not want this guy living anywhere in my neighborhood. He is one twisted fuck.

5. There should be a commercial playing
two Native Americans standing on a hill, watching a small boat heading toward shore ... vaguely able to make out Puritan garb ...

One Native American turns to the other and says "Come, now ... how can you say something like that? How bad can they be?"
