Edwards clarifies remarks on supporting nominee (“I fully expect to support the Democratic nominee")
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 04:26 PM by JohnLocke
Now can we please put this smear to rest? I am disappointed in Dodd and all the others who were intellectually dishonest on this bogus "story."

Edwards clarifies remarks on supporting nominee
By Klaus Marre--The Hill
Tuesday, November 13, 2007

----
Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) on Tuesday clarified a remark that some had interpreted as meaning he would not support Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) should she become the Democratic presidential nominee.

"I fully expect to support the Democratic nominee, and I fully expect to be the Democratic nominee," Edwards said Tuesday.
(...)
It is rare for any candidate seeking the nomination of their party not to pledge to support the eventual nominee. This year, a couple of Republican candidates, Reps. Ron Paul (Texas) and Tom Tancredo (Colo.), have indicated that they might not back the GOP nominee.

1. Fake outrage over.
Now we can flame each other over even more meaningless things.

9. Sen Chris Dodd: “I am surprised at just how angry John has become,”
The item in the Times led Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.), who is also competing for the nomination, to criticize Edwards.

“I am surprised at just how angry John has become,” Dodd stated. “This is not the same John Edwards I once knew. Of course, we should all come together to support the nominee. I wonder which of the Republicans John prefers to Hillary?”

11. Honest question: "I wonder which of the Republicans John prefers to Hillary?”
I don't think Edwards could crawl any lower than he has, but he keeps slithering to new depths..

8. He should've just said 'yes' when he was asked, and not refused to answer.
The "smear" came about due to his own actions. And now that he's seen polling, he's decided to flipflop. Yet another "Edwards moment"...

4. Wow, that's the quickest flip flop in history and not even a good one
BTW, his statement still isn't that affirmative. He still leaves an element of doubt. If you're going to support the Democratic nominee, then just say you are. Instead, he says he "fully expects to". That leaves room for him to change his mind...AGAIN.

5. What smear? Edwards was served a softball and whiffed.
So his rivals needle him on it.

And I am sure he will hear a quip during the debate too.

BFD.

13. Well I'm glad to hear that.
I was concerned that Edwards wouldn't agree to support the nominee if it isn't himself.
