Bush says economy has strains but still strong ("Families are working hard")

NEW ALBANY, Indiana (Reuters) - President George W. Bush acknowledged on Tuesday that the U.S. economy is facing some strains but insisted its underpinnings remain strong and resilient.

"This economy has got some strains," Bush said in a speech, citing high oil prices and the housing market. "Financial markets have got uncertainty."

"Families are working hard to meet rising mortgage payments, college and health care expenses and the cost at the gas pump," he said. "These are serious challenges."

"But as we have seen in recent years, this economy of ours is resilient," Bush added. "Sure there are some challenges facing us, but the underpinnings of our economy are strong and we're a resilient economy."

2. The middle class can no longer afford
to send their children to college, to get health care, to buy a house or absorb the higher cost of food and energy. But hey, the government is privatized and the free market reigns. The uber rich are doing just fine. The middle class and poor will just have to suck it up and carry the burden for the upper class.

3. "Families are working hard ..." So are single people, you putz.
And someof those families and single people are working so many jobs that they rarely get to spend any time with their kids. You should be ashamed, Mr. Pretzeldent.

4. Could * be any more clueless?
"Clueless" is probably the wrong word to use.

More accurately, he just doesn't give a shit.
