Please join the Courage Campaign and Democratic Clubs and grassroots organizations in calling for the California Democratic Party to officially censure Senator Feinstein for her shameful votes confirming Judge Michael Mukasey as U.S. Attorney General and Judge Leslie Southwick to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Here is the text of the current censure resolution, authored by California Democratic Party Progressive Caucus co-chair Mal Burnstein, that will be submitted to the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party at its meeting November 16-18 in Anaheim.

1. Only by making her loose will you censure Senator Feinstein

In our system, the only way to make an elected official or a party understand the magnitude of their colossal screw up is to make them loose.

When Senator Feinstein runs again, we need to remove her from office. This will have the effect of electing a Republican.

But there is no other way.

4. I understand the conundrum.

I signed the petition.

As a resident of California since 1971, I think there is about 0 chance California's Democratic Party will listen to this. Her seniority brings home the bacon. You want her to vote more consistently in ways that we Democrats like, put a Democrat in the Whitehouse and increase the Democratic majority in the Senate to at least 58 Senators. A Democratic President will set priorities that are more friendly to progressive liberal ideals. Fifty-eight Democratic senators will make it easier to peal off the more moderate Republican's and defeat the filibuster beast.

I was merely saying that other than impeachment (pissing off your constituents with your vote isn't an impeachable offense else Lieberman would be in Gitmo) only by making her loose can we really punish her.
