Gandhi. Every now and then we should take the time to reflect on
an integral part of his political philosophy and see what we, as a supposed "compassionate" society, are doing to work toward eradicating these Seven Deadly Sins. Gandhi considered these transgressions to be so perilous to a society that no social order claiming a spiritual foundation can be moving toward enlightenment without addressing them one by one and accessing progress at all times....

Wealth without Work
Pleasure without Conscience
Science without Humanity
Knowledge without Character
Politics without Principle
Commerce without Morality
Worship without Sacrifice

So I ask, how are we doing...

1. Seems to me that our society is failing these tests...
Individuals may do well, here and there...

But I don't have too much hope for how things are in the society as a whole...

Quite a provocative bunch of ideas...

Well said...

2. You lost me with the assumption of a "Compassionate Society"
The US is not about compassion. The modern American ideal of rugged individualism (translated as look out for number 1) denies the very notion that we are a compassionate society.

So I would rate us at less than 0 for all of his seven markers.

3. America/Americans, liberals included are largely unable to grasp nor accept
these teachings.

"Pleasure without Conscience" smacks the ego is such a way that I don't believe 95% of people even begin to get it.
