What Happened To me part 2
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 06:58 PM by khephra
Do I want Nader? No. I'm just pretty disgusted with the state of modern politics.

BUT...I learned a hell of a lot about how people who are in third parties or Green are treated here today. I've NEVER seen the level of instant disgust thrown at me in my three years here as I did in one simple thread. Instead of trying to understand me, people suddenly decided to insult me. Nice job ****wads.

In a forum in which I've seen people switch candidates almost daily, I get insulted for expressing my disgust openly and frankly. Who the %%%% do you all think you are? Get off your high horse and read maybe a few months of my posts before you determine where I'm coming from you armchair psychiatrists.

I'm ABB, but I don't have to be happy about it...nor do my words here have to cause such a fuss. We all spout off things here that we regret later, but I didn't expect to learn who my friends and foes were here from one single thread. I guess I'm thankful for that. I know who my true friends are now. Thank you for that.

It will pass. :grouphug:

...for being a beacon of reason for as long as I've been a DU member. And just to set the record straight, I would be as happy as a repig with the keys to the Savings and Loan if Nader were elected. And I don't care who gets their panties in a wad about it!

3. AMEN!
I can't believe the level of pure bile I'm seeing here this week. Back to my music and maybe a quick perusal of the Tao Teh Ching to reframe my thoughts.*sigh*

4. you're one of the most reasonable posters on here
and your earlier post was nothing if not reasonable. I don't think it's just this board, though; what you see here is reflective of the venom, fear, and anger that is festering in the national psyche.

I'm crying over here...I just can't believe the way some people responded to me. DU has definitely changed in the last few months and not for the best.

because a) they are terrified of Bush, and b) maybe even more important, because they are Selling Out thier own principles and they don't like being reminded of it.

Just MO.

16. I joined right before the stupid war
because I needed to escape the incredible wave of Orwellian propaganda we've been submitted to. You were there posting stuff right and left (OK ,left) in the BN or GD stack. There also were people like redeye coming up with those amazing ideas and debates. I guess we'll meet again in November 2004. Thanks for your contributions.

7. It was
pretty shocking. I don't kow why exploring all of our options is such a crime. People should have known you were not planning on voting for the guy, you said so in that, or another thread. Even so, it should not have happened to you. We are all just so darned upset and unreasonable right now. Take care.

8. .
Since the first days I have been here, I've always seen you as a responsible, thoughtful and very respective member of this community.

You shouldn't feel too upset about people attacking you in that thread and you shouldn't let your emotions be influenced so much by the current feelings that mark these Primaries.
I can only assume that the people who attacked you were also upset about many of these "I won't vote for (fill in the front runner)" posts, and they regarded it possibly as just another of these posts that stirred up many negative emotions without giving you the slightest benefit of the doubt that you should have deserved.
This will pass, people will move on and people will treat each other with more respect soon, I hope at least.
Hey, one day the majority of the people here will unite again, as Democrats, (hopefully).

there is no excuse. The ONLY decent, honorable thing to do is apologize. (to whom it may concern)

9. Hey, keph, I haven't talked to you in a long time.
Want to thank you for your long and assiduous service to DU. There were times when only DU and your posts kept my sanity!!

I read part-way through the previous thread, and I couldn't believe I was on Democratic Underground. Even though things have been sorta vicious around here the past couple of weeks, that was over the top.

Here in New Mexico I have been working on the Kucinich campaign, and one of the things we have done is get Greens to come back into the Party. And I never felt that once they signed on the dotted line, they were second class citizens. Maybe because I had never felt that Greens were second class citizens before.

We are 12% Green in this state(at least before I re-registered 100). We are so green in my area that the Governor prefaces every speech down here with, "I know a lot of you didn't vote for me, but..."
We had hoped the Party would listen to the Greens and progressives.
But we have been shut down. I am heartbroken because I have been a member of the Democratic Party for 42 years and was on a first name basis with Senator Chavez.

So I understand your frustration. We progressives are always promised, "We'll get around to it, once we're in office." And it never HAPPENS. It's always tomorrow, tomorrow...42 years later.

I won't say "Hang in there," because I would be insulted if someone said that to me, after 42 years. But, I understand your frustration: running to the center the Republicans have set for us is really running to the right. And so we've got two bologna sandwiches from which to "choose" so that we can vote for a spoiled bologna sandwich in Nov.

Just know that I care, and I apologize for the abuse against you. One of these days, these people are going to come to their senses.

I was making an earnest attempt to point to the varying agendas which divide us where there could be strength in numbers.

12. Surely you must know
How much Nader is hated by some on this board. You basically posted something saying, "Go Nader!"

I didn't read all the posts in that thread, but I'm sure there were some violent disagreements. What did you expect?

13. The Serious BKL post
The post I made on the other thread was tongue-in-cheek, but in the twenty minutes I spent composing it, dozens of other posts appeared. I hope it did not hit you the wrong way, and I apologize if it did. I read some of the other responses after posting it, and the thread didn't seem to be turning out very pleasant.

It's no crime to spout off and vent some disgust. Unfortunately, many of us are on hair-triggers about politics these days. There's thirty years of pent-up frustration at the abuse we've taken, and the cork is ready to pop. Even a few years ago, nobody would have broken a sweat over your post; today, as soon as the first wave of panic hits, the reaction is white-hot anger.

The good news is that the idea that "we have to support Our Guy and then shut up" is now dead. More popular activity will change the political system. Even the nonsense you've had to deal with is a perversely welcome change from apathy and complacency.

Kick back and let the hotheads contemplate their rash folly. This is going to be a tough year -- but I'm betting that we will be tougher. Herr Rove has spent four years planning some truly flesh-ripping fun for the amusement of his minions and masters alike. It may be just as well that we test our own endurance now before he releases the Flying Monkeys on us.

But Flying Monkeys sure make tasty barbecue -- and they're Atkins-approved!

I agree - personally, I think every candidate has a right to run. If a Democrat can't get a plurality, it's their problem...they shouldn't blame it on somebody else that they can't get enough votes.

As for yourself, I really don't see how anyone can question your Democratic credentials.

23. It was the sentiment that you expressed, not you.
No one is getting a pass for taking pleasure in anything that might contribute to a Dem defeat.

Should people have been more civil about it? Yep, but that's the hell of GDP04. I'm sorry you were hurt by it.
