3. No - stuck in the hinterlands without enough time to get back to Washington to vote
thanks to the Majority Leader scheduling the vote at the last minute.

4. guess it wasn't an important enough vote
what are the odds they'll ever be water-boarded? Naahh, it will never happen, so why bother voting ....

7. It was an important vote, that the Majority Leader treated like it was a post office naming
A vote of this importance not only requires advance notice to all of the Senators in your caucus to ensure that they can be there, it also requires some strategy, whipping and caucusing - none of which Reid did. He just spent the day with the Republican leadership, made some idle threats, and then scheduled the vote at the time THEY wanted it.

And now the Democratic candidates -supposedly the people on his side - are taking the heat from people who don't understand that people can't just get form Iowa to Washington on 3 hours notice and are trashing the candidates for not making the vote rather than blaming Reid for making it impossible for them to make the vote.

5. Yeah - there was an up-in-arms thread about the no-shows, but I agree that
there's a strong probability that it was Reid who hosed this by moving the vote up.

I've calmed down somewhat until I hear for sure what the reason is, but it's just too odd that all of them were absent. And I know that Biden and Dodd were definitely planning to vote nay, so something's funky.

14. Thanks for the update...geez, there sure is a lot of confusion on
this issue, and downright nastiness.

Shame on all who did not vote.

I think people were more angry with BO because there seems to be a pattern with him not voting lately, on important issues.

17. Guys, the vote was 53 to 40. Wouldnt matter if the 4 had shown up. I'm sure
the dems knew they didnt have the vote, but they used it as an
opportunity to speak out publicly and viciously against the
admin and dummy. Mukasey wont be as bad as Gonzales and maybe
he'll clean out the nest of Falwell's evangelists in the
justice dept.
And then since he doesnt know what waterboarding is, there's
always the chance the judiciary will demonstrate it to him. He
knows the law on waterboarding damn well and he can't go
against the law. Not after the display the dems put on for him
tonight.
