If you live in a state the democrats have no chance of winning, states such as Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Utah, nobody should fault anyone if they want to vote third party. Their vote already doesn't count, so it's not a loss for our nominee.

Now, if you live in Florida, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Missouri, any state the democrats have a chance of winning, you should vote for the democratic nominee or else risk four more years of the evil one.

Maybe there will be vote swapping websites like in 2000, so voters in the battleground states can vote against Bush and also for their preferred third party candidate.

1. I'd prefer
to see Bush defeated in the biggest popular vote landslide ever. Wishful thinking probably, but it sure would be satisfying.

3. Need to consider possibility that the ROG would challenge
Perhaps, but we need to consider the possibility that the ROG would challenge a Dem Electoral College win if Bush were to miraculously win the popular vote.

2. True, although it would make a difference in the largely symbolic
"popular vote."

4. Great logic
And when your state turns out to go to Bush by only a few thousand votes...then who will you blame?

If you truly want Bush out (and if you are on this site, you should) please, don't take any chances and vote for the Dem candidate. I just hate to think that this attitude catches on and we lose states that we could have won. Remember, WV or NH would have kept Bush out last time if we could have just gotten a few more. You never know how close your state could end up being.

5. I whole-heartedly agree.
The black community makes up a HUGE percentage of most Southern states. Educating and empowering them and other historically disadvantaged groups and GETTING OUT THE VOTE could make a real difference.

Think about it -- the only people the GOP are really GOOD for are wealthy heterosexual white males.

There aren't that many of them! If we get everybody else out to vote, it might be a big surprise in November for whistle-ass.

10. If Shrub loses Texas by only a few thousand votes
then hell will freeze, thaw and re-freeze that same November day!

I feel quite comfortable voting my conscience at this point in time. If by some miracle the race looks tight down here in October, then I'll reconsider and probably vote for the Dem nominee. Though, if the race is tight in TEXAS in October, we've already won in a landslide. :-)

6. Yeah...I bet that's what they said in Florida
in 2000

What does it take to prove how important a single vote can be?

7. you realize, of course,
that all of this talk is pointless if they are continued to program the electronic voting machines to "vote" any way they want.
Now, if Ralph Nader wanted to make an issue out of THAT, great. But something tells me he won't....

8. A better idea....
Instead of saying "Me, Me, Me" all the time....

A contract with the Greens.

For example, suppose the DNC encourages all the Dems to vote for a Green/Liberal, Third Party candidates in local levels or...

Support a Green candidate for Senate or House in a Liberal state this year.

If you had the choice between a GOP candidate and a Green Candidate for Senate or House, which would you choose?

Lot of Greens voted for Dems in 2000 and this year.

Why not share the wealth and build a coalition instead of playing the "blame game" all the time?

If the Dems actvely supported a Green candidate for a lower position in our govt(for starters)...

No need to worry about Nader or the Greens this year....and forever.

9. Sounds like the deal Dems made with greens in 2000
The left outnumbered the right in votes by 3.5 million, yet the story is that America is "evenly divided".

Imagine if Gore had won by 3.5 million votes. Imagine if Nader voters were Dems in 2000. Now imagine America with President Gore.

We need to wipe the floor with Bush in November. If we can win by 3 million votes this time, the story will be about the great rise of the left. Imagine that.

12. This whole thought is not worth any consideration
this is not political planning. This is a late night bull session with a bunch of college kids and a couple of pizzas.

13. I really wonder if there are any *safe states* this year
I was looking at the 2000 numbers, and some states were sooooo close. I know conventional wisdom tells us there are safe states. . .but I really hope that there is a unified effort by Dems to vote GWB out everywhere.
