Poll question: What should a progressive do in November?
Let's not have any elaborate flames, loyalty oaths, or vanity posts on why one chooses to eschew the nominee, if you please. I'm really just interested to see what folks here believe.

7. I am going to give it
a couple of years before I re evaluate. I do not want to leave this party but right now it appears to be leaving me. The only thing to do that makes sense is to work with it while others who cannot tolerate it work to build something else. What they build will be there if we can't stay with the Democrats. Taking a thought from diamondsoul, I trust Kucinich and will stay like he will and work with him. We will see what happens. For now, Bush* has to go.

4. Vote for the nominee AND...
work to get progessives elected to the House, the Senate, your state House and Senate, your county board, your township board, your library board, your precinct committeeperson....

Lots of seeds to cast. Eventually they grow into a forest. Don't be disappointed if every plant ain't exactly to your liking. :)

8. Vote for Ralph Nader!!!!.....
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 03:48 PM by sleipnir
NOT! (Made you look )

I'll vote for the nominee, but holding my nose all the way to the ballot box. I would ask other progessives to do the same. I'm with MuseRider in so far as I'll give the Dem party one more chance to reform, otherwise, I'm probably out.

9. Progressives in Kansas
or from Kansas (or are you back?) have a lot of fight in them. You have to to keep your head above the slime out here. Yes, you made me look.

10. Ha!
No, I'm not back yet, I'm still out East, but I'm keepin' the spirit alive out here. You know, the ratio of Crazy Progressive Radicals-to-Average People has always been pretty high in Kansas, at least historically!!!

14. Didn't we do that with Clinton?
I think we only moved further right under Clinton, just slower and he had a nice smile and people liked him.

Incremental change, or incremental decrease of our continuous move rightward?

Not saying anything on how I will vote, just presenting the opposing argument.

13. It depends how well the Dems respond to them before November.
If the Dems make it clear enough that they know how needed progressives are, and how well rewarded progressives will be, then that will definitely be better for the Dems than the alternative. Dems need progressives a hell of a lot more than progressives need Dems.

15. What have you been smoking?
You've been listening to to much right wing radio. The majority of the party is made up of conservative blue collar values. Look at the polls, look at the demise of Dean, and Kucinich couldn't carry a state even if he was the second coming of the Messiah. You be living in a dream world man. Of course, I could be wrong......maybe in another century or two.

16. Ok, then our challenge is to gather the millions who don't vote
Well, first of all, I would like to see numbers for your "majority of the party is conservative" claim. I would go beyond that and say that we can get a large number of disinterested leftist voters to vote again.

17. Let's see how the Dems would like it if Progressives sat out the
election. Or they could just think back to 2000, when 2.5% of voters went for Nader rather than a Democrat. Do you think they want that to happen again? Do you think they have the sense to stop that from happening? We'll see. We'll see.
