So much misinformation! A simple pledge: Vow to get exact quotes in context-first
before spouting off.

If all of us could vow to 1) get exact quotes of what the candidates are saying before forming a conclusion and 2) make sure to read the full quote in it's proper context (watch video footage if it's available)... that would go a long way in reducing the spread of RW memes on this site.

1. One problem is that AP's political reporting is slanderous anti-Dem crap
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 11:46 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
but the worthless AP interpretation of things is seized on like it was gospel. (If it seems favorable to one cause or another) Then people refuse to revise their interpretation when it comes out 24 hours later that the AP story was crap.

The problem with this never-ending cycle is that the AP story is ALWAYS FALSE. This is nothing new. All AP political stories are heavily spun bullshit concocted to smear a democrat or advance some lazy, fantastic campaign narrative.

And AP stories about republicans clean up and paraphrase quotes to make them more sane. AP always does that.

AP is incapable of running an honest story about any Dem. Edwards and Obama have had their turns in the AP fun house also. (Edwards especially... the AP has it in for him big-time)

Everyone should get used to reading AP stories with the same skeptical eye we would apply to a Fox News story... probably based on some underlying bit of fact, but almost always full of willful misinterpretation.

4. It appears to me that the only "jokers" are new.
The long-time DUer's seem to be quite sensible about things and nearly always check the evidence themselves.

Even the ones who oppose my candidate are usually quite reasonable.

3. Totally agree, and I just screwed up!
I nearly always insist on seeing a quote for myself, in context, from a reliable source.

For some reason, I fell prey to the "Clinton said his wife is being swiftboated" meme that went all through the talking heads on teevee and all over DU. I didn't check it out for myself. I fell for it. :dunce:
