John Breaux as VP
Bracing my self for the inevitable rubbishing of the idea of putting a fairly conservative Dem on the ticket I’ll outline my thinking….

To me Breaux has a lot of advantages particularly for Edwards as a running mate…

1.) Experience (Edwards big weakness) Breaux has been a LA senator for seventeen years and before that was a representative in the house for the proceeding fifteen years.

2.) He is a conservative Dem, but not outrageously Zell Miller style conservative, he has a long record of fashioning bipartisan legislation and is as a result perfectly suited to the job of the VP of running the senate.

3.) He also comes from the south and his great popularity in his native LA along with Blanco’s victory in 2003 and the fact that Edward’s economic populism might well resonate well there would put LA in play and this could also have the effect of bettering Dem chances in nearby Arkansas.

with Kerry, Breaux would help assuage any fears over his liberal record amongst moderate independents and while Breaux’s on the ticket with Kerry rather than Edwards would probably fail to net any southern states it would go a long way to assisting Democratic senatorial candidates… the great folly inherent in leaving the south IMHO is that if we lose then it is likely that we will have given too little support to our senatorial candidates in the south and not only will we face a second Bush term but also a solidly GOP Senate and House… Any Thoughts?

1. I'd rather see Mary Landrieu than Breaux
And Kerry would NEVER choose Breaux as a running mate on the basis of losing the environmental vote alone.

2. Bad idea
Breaux is 100% anti-choice. It's not a good idea to anger our abortion rights base, especially not in this crucial election. I want Clark or Edwards or Graham for VP, not an ass-kisser like Breaux.

3. Breaux is only slightly to the left of Zell Miller...
and well to the right of Lieberman. Let's not.

9. Nope, that would only work with Edwards.
Anti Semites won't vote for Kerry because of his grandpa. And Buchanan wouldn't run with him because he's a PNAC puppet.

11. Yes
They think the Republicans will be nicer to them then:dunce: I swear all the RINO's in the Puke party are thier voters, not reps. Unlike us, all are DINO's are in office, not in the voting booth.

12. The DLC is trying to lose the election itself.
Just like they did in 1994, 2002, and (in practical terms) 2000. The entire purpose of the DLC is the gradual destruction of the Demoncratic party from within. And unfortunately, they are very close to accomplishing that sickening goal.

10. In my opinion, we don't need a conservative democrat
as VP - it doesn't make any difference if they would want to work with the Republicans or not because the Repubs have no desire to work with the Democrats. When has there been one instance in the last few years that the GOP cared what the Democrats thought? Breaux was a token on the Medicare committee- it didn't matter what he thought, the GOP was going to pass THEIR VERSION of the Medicare legislation.
The days of "centrist" anything are gone - until Frist, Delay, Hastert and the rest of the gang are gone, and putting a DINO on the ticket will not help us one iota - except to try to encourage the Dems to capitulate to the Repubs time after time after time. There has to be some give and take in a give and take relationship...you can't be the giver all the time, and the Repubs. have clearly stated they are the takers. Just to mention, Breaux is my senator, and even after all his years of representing us....we are still the poorest, most underdeveloped state in the union. We have the largest charity hospital system in the country, and his Medicare legislation will destroy public health care here in his own state. Thanks John for looking out for "the people you represent".

I don't like that. But he's very personable. He should give us a tremendous boost in the south.

trying to tell us how much better Medicare will be when we have a "choice"- RIIIIGHT Mr. Snake-oil Salesman.

Don't worry, he can always be a lobbyist for insurance companies who want to ruin Medicare.

18. Come on guys
he's not that bad... he's a conservative Dem but hey if we cant tolerate diversity whats that say about us... weather we chose to accept it or not the GOP disciplined and yet diverse we on the other hand are slightly less disciplined and yet even more diverse... we should really except that we have to work together as one party neither the conservative or liberal wings can win alone... OK plea for unity over........ Peace!

Here's a clue about when I feel Breaux getting the VP nod would be a good idea.

23. No need to be ...
that harsh man... we hardly talking about Jesse Helms here... we talk alot about Max Cleland as a great potential VP but him and Breaux (with a number of notable exceptions) generally voted the same way on all the issues... sorry to pester but its true...

24. I take it you're not talking to me,
but anyway, anyone who takes steps with Republicans to trash Medicare, the program that has done the most to keep seniors out of poverty, can go fly a kite.

BTW, remember when Shrub wanted to have a Democrat in his new cabinet? His first choice was Breaux. That tells me something.
