Governor Blunt (R-MO) Fires Lawyer for Speaking Up, Breaks Law. Up for re-election too.
Matt Blunt, the Missouri Governor, who defeated current Senator Claire McCaskill to become Governor in 2004, is up for re-election. He's got tough competition in popular Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon. Blunt is very unpopular at this point, and right now is surrounded by controversy.

The charge against the Governor? He fired a lawyer for speaking up against Blunt illegally destroying government documents, and fired the lawyer for doing so.

The controversy is highlighted below:

In the most disturbing Matt Blunt scandal since the Fred Ferrell sexual harassment cover-up, newspapers are reporting that Blunt fired his own attorney, Scott Eckersley, last month after Eckersley told Blunt that he was illegally destroying government documents. Instead of listening to Eckersley’s correct legal advice, Blunt continued to break the law – then fired Eckersley and made false character attacks in an attempt to silence him.

“It’s been clear for some time that Matt Blunt has been illegally destroying government documents, but now we learn that even Blunt’s own lawyer told him he was breaking the law,” said Jack Cardetti, spokesman for the Missouri Democratic Party. “But instead of listening to his lawyer and changing his ways, Blunt fired his lawyer and continued to break the law. To make matters worse, Blunt tried to silence his attorney by making false attacks on his character. When is Matt Blunt going to realize that he’s not above the law? The people of Missouri are sick of the scandals, sick of the horrible decisions this Governor continues to make. It’s no wonder that Matt Blunt is the least popular, most vulnerable Governor in the nation.”

Governor Blunt has been a flop as leader of the state. This controversy only highlights more reason to dump him in 2008!!

3. That is wonderful news!
As the biggest city nearest to me--a little over two hours away--St. Louis has a "home" place for me from time to time over the last thirty years.
The proof that even young republicans are utterly incompetent raises its ugly head again.
Grossly dishonest, unimaginative-except for dreaming up new ways to commit fraud and hurt people, thin skinned drama queens, selfish, fiercely disloyal bullies--anything I've missed?

Yeah, plenty.

That man, and his arrogantly ignorant father, have been a scourge on Missouri and St. Louis government, politics, economy and respect for far too many years. Good riddance to them both, hopefully very soon.
His dad may yet pull him out of this latest mess, ala dubya, and he is one heartless, powerful son of a bush.
