Pat Boone records vile anti-gay robo-call to bash Kentucky Dem nominee for Governor, Steve Beshear
Kentucky GOP Pushing Anti-Gay Message In Final Days Of Gov Race

By Eric Kleefeld - November 4, 2007, 4:26PM

Going into the home stretch in in the Kentucky gubernatorial election, the Republicans appear to have brought out one last card: Paranoia against gays.

The state GOP is now sending a robo-call throughout the state featuring none other than Pat Boone, warning that as a Christian he is concerned that Democratic nominee Steve Beshear, who has been way ahead in the polls, will work for "every homosexual cause."

"Now do you want a governor who'd like Kentucky to be another San Francisco?" Boone asks. "Please re-elect Ernie Fletcher."

And at a campaign stop last night, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports, the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor made a direct attack upon the Democratic ticket: "Do you want a couple of San Francisco treats or do you want a governor?"

Boone's robo-call is available after the jump.

1. What about "love your neighbor as yourself"?

Why don't they just say they hate gay people? Why do they try to hide things in plain sight?

4. I think they already have a senator with "San Francisco values"
wink wink nudge nudge

I don't think Ky republicans ought to be pushing the anti gay crap too hard.

It might come back to bite Sen. McChinless in the ass. Except he might like that.

6. The "culture war": San Francisco
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 07:58 PM by goodgd_yall
RW news loves to show the latest "ungodly" happening in San Francisco, driving a wedge between that city and the rest of America. Here is the result.

Boone can go suck a big one (which I'm sure he'd be so grossed out about, he'd die).

8. Years from now, civics textbooks will report . . .
That even as late as 2007, a formerly major political party was still trying to sell such rank bigotry, enlisting the help of has-been pop music stars to sell their hatred.

If the inevitable results of such appeals to bigotry weren't so lethal, this would just be sad; as it is, I think the Kentucky Republican party should be named as a co-defendant in the next hate crime lawsuit.

9. Bet ol' Pat
would love to spank their bare bottoms for being gay. It would probably be a two-fer, since it seems spanking might also help him get his jollies off.

snip from http://sfrsite.topcities.com/celebs1.htm :

The American celebrity sisters, Debby, Cherry, Lindy, and Laura, were strictly raised by their father, singer/entertainer Pat Boone, who would spank their bare bottoms with a belt, slipper and other implements when they misbehaved growing up.

Sick.

14. Pat Boone was a pop singer in the 50s
At that time, many white people didn't listen to African American musicians. But when Pat Boone sang their songs, white people listened because they thought Boone was "respectable." Of course, if you listen to Fats Domino's Aint That a Shame, you'll see that Fats is the real thing while Boone sounds phony (at least to me). I seem to remember that Boone also covered some songs by "hillbilly" singers. Boone's father-in-law was a real country musician with hits like Chatanoogie Shoe Shine Boy (late 40s or early 50s).

This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I mean, if I got a robo call from Chubby Checkers saying to vote for John Edwards, I would either think it was a bad joke, or that the Edwards campaign was seriously in trouble

Entertainer Pat Boone robo-calls for Fletcher

?Thousands of Kentuckians received a message from conservative entertainer Pat Boone this afternoon. Boone, who became popular for his R&B covers during the 1950's, expressed his support for Governor Ernie Fletcher and his concern about Steve Beshear's endorsement by C*FAIR, a gay-rights organization.

Boone claims kin to pioneer Daniel Boone and is a former spokesman for Chevrolet. Listen to Boone's message:

36. it's those white bucks . . . they're cramping his brains . . .
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 05:57 AM by OneBlueSky
we actually have a Pat Boone story in our family . . . sometime in the late 50s, when Pat Boone was having all those hit records like Love Letters In The Sand, my dad was in the Army and stationed in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area . . . at the time he hated rock 'n roll and pretty much all popular music, preferring the Montavani Strings, the Ray Coniff Singers, and Mitch Miller Sing-Alongs . . . I still have some of the albums . . .

anyhow, one day he came home and told the story of how he met Pat Boone that very afternoon . . . Pat was doing some shows in Buffalo, and Dad had some reason or other to be in the city and ended up in a bar somewhere near the venue Pat was playing late that afternoon . . . he sat down at the bar, and discovered that the guy he was sitting next to was none other than Pat Boone! . . . and yes, he was actually wearing white bucks . . .

they struck up a brief conversation, and Dad was thoroughly amazed at just how nice Pat Boone was . . . the following week, he actually went out and bought a copy of Love Letters In The Sand on a 45 -- and I still have that, too . . .

from that day forward, my dad was a Pat Boone fan, and never missed Pat's appearances on Ed Sullivan and other variety shows of the day . . . "He was such a nice guy" I remember him saying . . . "And he really did wear white bucks!" . . . :hippie:

37. My question is why does everyone knock San Francisco?
Seriously, who wouldn't want to be like that city, at least in the positive aspects. I'm talking about the tolerant atmosphere, cultural contributions, etc. The political corruption, cost of living, and the class/race divisions I could do without, but on the whole, I don't see anything that is outright so terrible about the city for folks in the rest of the country to knock it all the time.
