The Dean Secret?
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 11:13 AM by BeFree
What was it about Dean that inspired so many to sit up and take notice?

For me, it was the fact that he made politics seem like it could be Fun.

Really, who wants to do anything if it ain't Fun?

7. Freedom and liberty is nothing....

....without Fun.

If we are gonna fight and sweat and bleed for the future, doesn't it make sense to have some fun while we're at it?

I saw Dean say that he was enjoying what he was doing because it didn't really matter how it turned out, he knew that he was pointed in the right direction and that realization was all he needed from the process.

IOW, he was having Fun.

3. Sorta like the enthusiasm Big Dog brought to the field back in 92
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 11:32 AM by havocmom
Enthusiasm backing up a basically positive, can-do attitude can shake the doldrums out of the dogs just sittin'' on the porch grumbling about the fleas suckin' their blood.

It is called Leadership and it is a quality few politicians actually have.

Leaders inspire people to get up and do while most politicians rely on the practice of hypnotizing the masses into a stupor where they lose their will and independence.

On a related note of grass roots leadership, I tip my hat to the folks of Moveon.org. It may not be "the thrill that'll get ya when you get your picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone", but you guys made page one - top right column of the Billings Gazette on-line edition! http://www.billingsgazette.com When you manage that feat, you have grabbed their attention! WHOO-Hoo! Am gonna get a print copy in town and make sure it is there too. Showed our senators for the dismal, outta touch sheep they have been.

Leadership: if the pols can't do it, the people will. That seems to be part of the Dr. Dean message. We don't have to sit on the porch and just take it. We can shake things up and head for change.

edit: my usual typo stuff

4. Truth telling in simple yes/no/ and short maybe's while showing leadership

Almost Reagan like in Delivery - but unlike Reagan, actually told the truth.

A bit too much passion to get the Reagan "gravitas" - but really a solid candidate - IMHO

6. He bitched about bush in a LOUD manner
That is what got my attention.

Dean alluded to things about bush that everyone on the net had already known about for five years or more. Dean gave us so called "conspiracy fringe types" mainstream attention.
(Allow me to claify: that would be informed people that read actual NEWS... instead of just parking in front of faux news, or reading trumped up WH propaganda by "journalists" like Judith Miller, Bob Woodward and numerous other media whores)

Dean let the Jeannie out of the bottle IMO

I backed Clark but there is no denying that Dean brought a lot to the table with his frank remarks about bush.
