Gov rips Dem move to pull power of filling Senate seat
Gov. Mitt Romney yesterday blasted Democratic lawmakers who want to strip his power to fill U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry's vacant seat if Kerry is elected president.

While flatly vowing not to quit the Corner Office to take Kerry's seat should it come open, Romney predicted ``an outcry from citizens'' if lawmakers attempt to change state law and fill it through a special election.

``You really don't want to create a monopoly that has so much power that it will say we're going to change laws in a blatantly partisan way at a time when people are looking to have fairness and equality on Beacon Hill,'' Romney said.

Current law says that Romney could appoint a senator to fill the rest of Kerry's term, which ends in 2008, once the senator resigns - likely in December or next January if he beats President Bush.

It's nice to see Mr. Romney is essentially assuming that Kerry will beat Bush in the General Election. If he wanted to put on a brave face for the GOP he would have said "I'm not worried about filling the seat; it'll belong to Kerry until January 2009..."

The GOP's slip is showing...

3. More evidence of repuke irony deficiency gene:
"``You really don't want to create a monopoly that has so much power that it will say we're going to change laws in a blatantly partisan way at a time when people are looking to have fairness and equality on Beacon Hill,'' Romney said."

How can any repuke say something like that with a straight face after what Delay pulled in Texas with re-redistricting?
