Kerry holds huge lead over Edwards in New York
Poll: Kerry holds huge lead over Edwards in New York

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Sen. John F. Kerry has opened up a huge lead over Sen. John Edwards among New York Democrats with less than two weeks to go before the state's crucial "Super Tuesday" primary, a statewide poll reported Friday.
The poll, from Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion, found Kerry leading Edwards, 66% to 14%, among likely voters in New York's March 2 Democratic presidential primary.

The two senators — Kerry is from Massachusetts and Edwards is from North Carolina — are facing a "Super Tuesday" showdown in New York and nine other states.

In the poll, New York's own Al Sharpton was at 7% and Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio was at 3% among New York Democrats.

Whether he does or not is yet to be seen.

10. No, Edwards is going to concede NY

If he's at all smart.

It's hugely expensive to do anything in New York (as anyone who has spent a weekend in Manhatten knows)--including TV advertising. And Kerry has completely out-organized Edwards there. I am betting that Edwards isn't even on the ballot in many NYC CDs (the requirements are wicked high). Plus, New Yorkers aren't known to have any special antipathy against elitist northern liberals.

So Kerry is going to whip Edwards like a redheaded stepchild in NY--Edwards stands more of a chance as a write-in candidate in VT. Better for Edwards to try to win OH and maybe even make inroads in CA.

11. Dean backers in NY will mostly go to Kerry
That's my observation. I am hearing a lot of satisfaction that Dean kicked Kerry into gear and they now want to consolidate behind him and aim towards Bush.
