I forgot all about this crazy old twit and his campaign.
McCain hits rivals on military experience
The former POW says his rivals aren't qualified to deal with torture, war

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21598410/

<snip>

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - John McCain, a Vietnam war prisoner, argued Friday that his three top rivals for the GOP nomination aren't qualified to deal with issues like torture — or to be a wartime president — because they never served in the military.

The Arizona senator's position on an interrogation technique that simulates drowning — he says it constitutes torture and is illegal — puts him at odds with Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, who haven't taken such a hard line.

"There's a clear division between those who have a military background and experience in these issues and people like Giuliani, Romney and Thompson who don't —who chose to do other things when this nation was fighting its wars," McCain told reporters after touring a shipyard in this military bastion.

1. So what Senator?
Big deal. You're against torture. How commendable. Unfortunately you are such a rabid supporter of the war it matters little to me what you think about torture.

3. I wish people (Bush!) would listen to him when he says he would have said
ANYTHING they wanted when he was being tortured. In addition to being morally reprehensible, it does NOT garner valid intel. Maybe the R's will listen to him and think twice before voting for Bush's Atty Gen nominee.

He does have a unique perspective, and it's because of his experience that I don't understand his support of the war. But I welcome his comments on waterboarding and torture.

7. Unfortunately
his continued support of the war cancels out his opposition to torture. I'm glad he speaks out against it but he loses me when he hugs Bush and sings "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran."

Bombing Iran, staying in Iraq cause pain and suffering, too. Some of it is probably more intense and long lasting than waterboarding. Being shot hurts, being hit by a rocket fired grenade hurts, seeing your family killed hurts.

8. I understand your point, but don't agree that his continuing support of the
war "cancels out" his opposition to torture. If we don't listen and learn from him on a subject he is uniquely qualified to address, we're shorting ourselves.

He can't convince me his war stance is right -- it's SO wrong -- but I believe his input on torture is valid and important.

9. I suppose if anyone
has credibility on the subject, he does. He's just such a BushCo suck up in everything else.

2. So unless I've been tortured, I can't know that it's bad and wrong?

5. No, but unless you've been tortured you don't know how you would respond.
HE does, and he's more qualified than anyone in the field to voice his opinion.

10. Makes sense to me...
Sort of the way I feel about men deciding whether women should have the right to choose.

12. The crazy old twit is catching on in NH
He and Rudy both smell blood on Romney and are spending lots of time up here.

It does fowl the air but we know that they'll be gone come February.
