In Dade, Edwards on a money mission
In Dade, Edwards on a money mission

Presidential contender John Edwards makes a quiet trip to Miami to raise money for his newly reenergized campaign.

BY PETER WALLSTEN

pwallsten@herald.com

Struggling to find the cash to match his new cachet in the Democratic presidential primaries, John Edwards jetted quietly into South Florida late Thursday to scrape up some funds.

The North Carolina senator made his stealthy jaunt after campaigning in New York City and Atlanta, attending a fundraiser at the Pinecrest home of Miami charter aircraft executive Stuart Cauff.

Edwards arrived on a private charter -- without his traveling press entourage -- and was scheduled to be on the ground for a couple of hours before returning to Georgia for another whirlwind day.

1. I hope he raises a lot of money.
It would be nice if our nomination process did not require it but it does. Clearly his primary opponent has a lot more of it than he does.

Our eventual nominee is going to need lots of it.

Sen. Edwards visits Princeton for fund-raiser
By: Jennifer Potash , Staff Writer 02/20/2004

Private event held at Jasna Polana.

U.S. Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) made a brief appearance in Princeton on Wednesday at a private fund-raiser at Tournament Players Club at Jasna Polana.
The event, sponsored by former state Sen. John Lynch and his wife, Deborah, was closed to the press. Sen. Edwards also attended a second fund-raiser at the Florham Park law firm Schwartz Simon Edelstein Celso & Kessler. Each fund-raiser had a suggested $1,000 donation. The two were expected to raise a total of $200,000.
Rick Wright of Princeton Township, who served as finance chairman of former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley's 2000 presidential campaign and is now an informal adviser to Sen. Edwards' campaign, said he sees parallels between the two efforts.
"The exit polls (from Tuesday's Wisconsin primary) showed independents and Republicans voted for John, much in the same way they went for Bill Bradley," Mr. Wright said.

3. Coming to get Miamicuban exile money
All Edwards has to do is out-pander the Bushies regarding evildoer Fidel Castro. Just like Clinton & Gore, and Gore & Lieberman did.

CANF founder and Clinton fundraiser Jorge Mas Canosa & Bill Clinton

Edwards will most likely use the tried and true technique used by Dems and repukes alike - go to Cafe Versailles on SW 8th St (Calle ocho) in Miami, sip cafe Cubano and rail at the crowd at how his admin will git tough on Castro and how Castro will fall due to an Edwards presidency, then head over the CANF/Commandos F-4/Brigade 2506 offices and pick up some anti Castro checks and money orders.

Its tried and true because it works.
