Since debate recaps are the vogue de jour...
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 12:50 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Added on edit: I have no idea who won. Obama, Biden and Edwards all helped themselves. Clinton was the loser, but without a clear winner the cost of her losing is smoothed out some. I do not expect Clinton to win Iowa, but I've been saying that for a couple of months. The deabte probably didn't change the dynamic much.

Clinton: I don't like her. She gets my back up and I just want her to stop yelling. And she has zero personality. She is, however, a fierce and disciplined gifted campaign machine. Her thought processes are dazzlingly fast. And, for what it's worth, every man on the stage would have been reduced to stuttering incoherence (if not tears) but the obstacle course that was thrown up... she's a tough cookie. But the bloom is off the rose. As such a clear front-runner, she is due for some buyer's remorse in advance, so I don't expect her polls to rise any for a while.

Obama: Remains an empty vessel... a Rorschach blot for those who want to be inspired, but to everyone else a non-entity. Since there's not a dimes worth of difference between Obama and Clinton on policy, his "change" schtick comes of as hollow symbolism.

Edwards: Speaking very much to the netroots. Some things he said last night were probably incomprehensible to average folks, though quite clear to DUers. Demerits for more than once using anonymous sources in attacks. In fairness, I detest Edwards as a shallow con-man who would (and has) say anything to anyone, so I can't be too objective about him.

Dodd: Decent performance, but really pissed me off at times. Decriminalize pot: good. Drivers License thing: offensive... real Glen Beck stuff. Electability: Big talk for someone at 1%. He threw a poll number at HC that was tantamount ot a lie... RW talking points don't sound any better coming from Dodd than anyone else. Minor hypocrisy on Iran, since he was supportive of designating the IRG a terrorist org. quite recently.

Biden: The only person on the stage I would be pleased to see as president, versus just being relieved Bush was gone. His Iranian nukes answer was the best thing anyone has said on the topic. He's funny, charming and tough as nails. And he had the sense to attack a republican for a change, and it was a damn fine attack!

Kucinich: By far his best debate performance. He seemed like he was actually running for an elected office... not president, but he had the gravitas one expects in a mayoral or state attorney general debate.

ON EDIT: I forgt all about Richardson, which kind of says it all. He's reduced himself to a sad puppy wanting to be loved. I have no idea why he's in the race.

1. Your recap resonates..
I agree with most of what you've said, although I don't find my defenses quite so high against Edwards as you seem to. I DO like Biden. I still love Kucinich and wish the corpomedia would stop pounding him.

2. DANGER DANGER - HILLARY BOT SPIN MACHINE AT WORK..
This is a lame attempt to spin the debate as a Hillary "win" - it was nothing of the sort. She got caught double talking - more than once last night and she's toast.

Edwards did an excellent job of showing Hillary to be thw weasel worder that she really is and got EXCELLENT reviews by the punditocracy after the debate.

Stop spinning...we aren't buying..

Doug D.

3. I find your reply intemperate, at best.
There is no attempt to claim "win or loss" in the op. In fact it seems to go against the whole "horse race" mentality the media is so wedded to.

4. Dude, don't drink in the morning
Hillary was the clear loser.

I did not see a clear winner, but there is no doubt the debate was a negative for Hillary. Period.

Just because someone is not spinning for your candidate doesn't mean they are spinning against him. It is possible to have personal impressions of an event, as opposed to seeing oneself as an amateur propagandist. Try it.

8. Original Thoughts In Abundance
Hello Cuke,
Why Yes, I do have many original thoughts and so many ideas that I can't type them fast enough, but some of them are so on target that they justified repetition. I've been chastized for my duplication, but of course my opinions and impressions still stand as well as the support for a candidate that represents the very best in the American people. I respect those devoted to Hilary Clinton and believe she will continue to make a good representative for New York as a Senator or other official in some governmental field. As a potential president of the United States I believe she will polarize, paralyze, and essentially create far more gridlock due to her personality, unfortunately her gender, and her ties to Bill Clinton and the ways of their shared administration. She seems to have a history of enabling not just him but others who do not have the interests of our nation as the forefront of their leadership. I don't hate her and would reluctantly accept her as a better choice than any of the current Republican candidates, but I would hope that the American people will have the strength, integrity, and courage to elect someone who can make a much better leader for our nation. I still believe Barack Obama is that person.

11. I'll cut you some slack
Im sure it wasnt intentional, so I'll just offer you some suggestions. Do with them what you will

It's good that you have original thoughts. There are a bunch of smart people here, and you're sure to have some interesting discussions. However, repeating yourself...not so interesting. We all have original thoughts but it's considered inconsiderate to post them all over, again and again. I you have anything to say that you think is particularly interesting, start a new thread. People here will surely jump in

You may want to give the rules a read now and again. They're not enforced too strictly. If you break a rule you don't get tossed off immediately, as you can see. That's because the rules are there mostly to help keep the discussions interesting, and keep flames down to a minimum.

Finally, you may want to consider formatting your posts into paragraphs. It's easier on the eyes to read it when it's broken up into paragraphs.

Good luck, and welcome to DU!

Oh, and one last thing - Hillary rocks!!!

5. Hillary was so great, I wept for the other candidates. They looked like little dogs up there.
