Added on edit: I have no idea who won. Obama, Biden and Edwards all helped themselves. Clinton was the loser, but without a clear winner the cost of her losing is smoothed out some. I do not expect Clinton to win Iowa, but I've been saying that for a couple of months. The deabte probably didn't change the dynamic much.
Clinton: I don't like her. She gets my back up and I just want her to stop yelling. And she has zero personality. She is, however, a fierce and disciplined gifted campaign machine. Her thought processes are dazzlingly fast. And, for what it's worth, every man on the stage would have been reduced to stuttering incoherence (if not tears) but the obstacle course that was thrown up... she's a tough cookie. But the bloom is off the rose. As such a clear front-runner, she is due for some buyer's remorse in advance, so I don't expect her polls to rise any for a while.
Obama: Remains an empty vessel... a Rorschach blot for those who want to be inspired, but to everyone else a non-entity. Since there's not a dimes worth of difference between Obama and Clinton on policy, his "change" schtick comes of as hollow symbolism.
Edwards: Speaking very much to the netroots. Some things he said last night were probably incomprehensible to average folks, though quite clear to DUers. Demerits for more than once using anonymous sources in attacks. In fairness, I detest Edwards as a shallow con-man who would (and has) say anything to anyone, so I can't be too objective about him.
Dodd: Decent performance, but really pissed me off at times. Decriminalize pot: good. Drivers License thing: offensive... real Glen Beck stuff. Electability: Big talk for someone at 1%. He threw a poll number at HC that was tantamount ot a lie... RW talking points don't sound any better coming from Dodd than anyone else. Minor hypocrisy on Iran, since he was supportive of designating the IRG a terrorist org. quite recently.
Biden: The only person on the stage I would be pleased to see as president, versus just being relieved Bush was gone. His Iranian nukes answer was the best thing anyone has said on the topic. He's funny, charming and tough as nails. And he had the sense to attack a republican for a change, and it was a damn fine attack!
Kucinich: By far his best debate performance. He seemed like he was actually running for an elected office... not president, but he had the gravitas one expects in a mayoral or state attorney general debate.
ON EDIT: I forgt all about Richardson, which kind of says it all. He's reduced himself to a sad puppy wanting to be loved. I have no idea why he's in the race.
