Can I ask, when was the last time you saw a firestorm like this on GD/P
in the primaries. I have lurked for a while and remember the Clark/Dean wars, but I feel widespread passion here has reached new heights, OK - I'm a newbie. What do you remember?

1. I think that GD: P is the only place that makes GD look substantive and reasoned.

on edit: you specified GD/P. I forget which exact forum this discussion took place, but it was crazy none-the-less.

3. Too many to count
These firestorms have come up at many levels and over many topics.

4. I think 2004 was worse, actually.
I mean, granted, this is pretty bad, but the bitchfest that was the 2004 primary is still unrivaled.

5. It was worse, actually.
It's likely to get worse now as the season progresses.

People who want superheroes and daddies tend to invest a lot in the candidate they have hung that particular mask on. They see any criticism of policy as bashing.

Just be aware that they're revealing a character flaw, that criticism is valid, and that this is normal for DU or any political site.

A thick skin is also essential.

6. 2004 makes this look like a cakewalk
I agree with the previous ones, 2004 was toxic as a nuclear plant.

All told this primary season has been mild relatively.

7. this is uglier than I ever remember it, and I've been here quite a while
So much bile, so many hate filled slapdowns because person "a" doesn't support the candidate of person "b".

:eyes:

Instead of talking rationally about the candidates it has become a slimefest in far too many threads.

If it weren't for "ignore" I wouldn't be able to stand it... I hate to admit it but I think I have a half-dozen folks blocked now....

17. I agree ~ the hate is way too much for me to take

I can be insulted by Bush and his crowd.

I don't and won't take it from people that are suppose to be "on the same side" that I'm on.

And the total bashing of the candidates is way too much for me.

We don't have to have Rudy do any damage, we are eating our own for 2008.

Hate filled, not room for discussion ~ just hate hate hate.

Meaner than Cheney around here!

What happened to the DU rules for the last week?

9. I ignored DU politics during the LAST presidential primaries, and
I'm pretty much doing it this time, too.

If it gets bad enough, anyone who posts negatively about another Dem candidate will get put on ignore.

I don't want you to tell me what's wrong with MY guy. Tell me what's right about yours.

13. This is nothing.
Remember when Dean lit said that he was the only major anti-war candidate? Remember when each individual accusation was posted multiple times a day against each candidate? That was 2004.

14. Definitely -- once there's an official Democratic presidential candidate...
there'll be a week or two of bitching and gloom and doom from the other candidates' supporters, but after that, folks will either get behind the Dem. candidate, leave DU, or get used to getting their posts removed if they start posting about not supporting the Dem. candidate, going third party, or what have you.

Three months till Feb. 5, then another month for the bitching to die down.
