Go on, get 'undercover' there, now--we don't want to be hearing from the likes of YOU!!! Just sit down, shut up and don't forget to vote for change!! Because if we SAY change, it must be true!

:sarcasm:

Was this red drippy thing even necessary? Normally, I'd think not, but I'm kind of surprised at how many here don't take issue when the GLBT ox is gored, just because it isn't 'their' issue.

Hell, it's not "my" issue, either--if I can just manage to ignore the reality that some of my relatives and friends live under...!

14. It's not hate. It's PROFOUND cognitive dissonance. Which is probably worse than hate.
Hate is a comfortable emotion--you snarl, growl and loathe the object of your hatred. It's like being on a team--US against THEM. Grrrrrr!!!!!

Cognitive dissonance is a different kettle o'fish.

It's what can happen when someone you idealize, respect, honor, look upon as the answer to your prayers and dreams, suddenly turns out to be a pragmatic bastard, but one with lousy judgment who is tone-deaf to the sensibilities of his core support groups.

The disappointment is profound, too. It's soul-crushing. 'Change' is just poli-speak for 'Tell 'em what they wanna hear.' The Hope for Tomorrow has feet of clay.

...when a political hero turns out to have feet of clay. Not a god in human form. Not the Second Coming. Just another flawed human being with ambition and good, even excellent, ideas.

WHY, knowing the fickle winds of political life better than ANYone else, would Al Gore subject himself to another presidential campaign? Why?

This is all just politics, and I happen to understand his thinking from a purely political standpoint in keeping McClurkin in the show.

I just happen to think he's wrong, and further that there are times when you make a stand on principle regardless of the politics involved. This should have been one of those times and Obama dropped the ball in not seeing that.

28. I don't think he's hated- he just made the sort of rookie mistake
that many people expected. He's shown poor judgment in the past (criticizing the Alito filibuster for example) -and is likely to again.

IMO, it was a mistake for him to run this time- and he's been showing why.

Better that he showed some leadership and inspiration in the Senate before launching off on a presidential bid.

I have never felt such venom and hatred for one person, it's unrelenting and as a supporter it hurts.
It's at the point of swift boating, criticism and anger is one thing, the piling on is another. Some campaigns are deliberately taking advantage, but what goes around...comes around!
Too bad Obama is human, I guess the other candidates are above reproach..not!

There's no excuse, other than Hillary being such a controlling woman.

She's probably paying people to post here. I don't see evidence that she's not, and I wonder how people can support a person in a primary who voted to authorize George W Bush to go to war.

No excuses for Obama hiring a bigoted gospel singer, but a war in Iraq, which is worse?

The LGBT community has been anti-war and pro-civil rights before it was cool.

Ask Bayard Rustin. Start there, then let's talk.

Oh and as far as finding a "lover", we've been together for ten years. And here's one of the many ways we've confronted bigotry:

38. I've come to the point where DU is becoming less valuable as a political resource
When you have two sentence flamebait posts making the Greatest Page category ad nauseum and without any real political insight or anything to truly make it seem like an effort was made by the dozen a day, it makes you wonder about the way threads get appointed as "valued".

When you are accused of being a homophobe because you are for a particular candidate who has made it known through voting records, statements and otherwise, it puts it all in a perspective that maybe DU is more a place for shy losers and malcontents that are too lazy to really get out in the street and try to do something to make a difference.

When you see people get venomously hateful at others that they would otherwise recognize as political allies on the street, it sends a message that perhaps logging on DU in the political forum is just a complete waste of time.

Better things can be done by all of us for whatever candidate we support than to quibble like rats on crack in a tiny cage like many do here.

My countdown to leave DU is probably beginning.

Obama did this. He did it to himself, and he did it to his supporters. Nobody forced him to do it.

He screwed up royal, and when the stuff hit the fan, he responded just like Hillary did regarding her IWR vote (to name one) ... he dug in his heels and made it clear that he would not be moved.

Well good for him. But there is already an intransigent fool in the White House ... and I for one don't look forward to a sequel.

And I suspect that you too are angrier at Obama for creating this mess than you care to let on.

53. Like I said...
...here at DU, people take a story that was actually pretty minimal and is seen otherwise away from DU as a non-story and turned it into a reason to want to call someone who's been HELPING THE LGBT COMMUNITY since the 1980's a "homophobe" for supporting a candidate who expressly made a point saying he disagreed with Donnie The Butthead.

It goes on deaf ears.

A lot of DU people here are simply lazy and are whiny malcontents. They are too preoocupied to do any grassroots work for their candidate and don't appreciate those that do such a thing. It seems that a surprising amount of people are fairly incapable of understanding basic Civics 101, basic political thought and offer nothing more that twisted, sophmoric accusations typed from their obese fingers on a shitty computer.

Your response illustrates perfectly how you don't know what you're talking about and you don't want to know what is really going on. You made up your mind based on fallacies and innuendo and you feel just great.

No need to respond to me. Really.

A number of not only good people but also thoughtful souls have already departed within the past week. I'm not leaving but I'm fading until a semblance of sanity returns.

Right now it seems like a mean-spirited Rovarian free-for-all.

I can understand disappointment with Obama but the hyperbole from OPPONENTS of Obama can not be seen as "on the up and up."

I'm backing-off until the HYPE subsides ... if that doesn't happen, it's a sad commentary of the state of American Politics today.

59. LOL
My skin is plenty thick. However, my patience is rather thin for people that I find a waste of time.

I've had it with people calling me a homophobe without them knowing what I've done for LGBT rights over the years. That goes way over the line for me. No point in even discussing anything with people that shallow and malignant.

When Obama is president, I fully expect the usual crap the MSM does. I worked in TV for a few years to know how that works. Barack is a big boy and will be able to handle them just fine.

63. Totally disagree, Obama would run circles around Hil in a debate, the guy is a professor and
Hillary has always been a student/observant

64. Um, how many debates have we had already?
Quite a few, if I'm not mistaken, and I have not seen this yet.

Maybe you are talking about a REAL debate, but we aren't likely to see one of those in the media we have today. Frankly, I doubt Obama would run circles around her in one of those, either.

65. Just wait a couple of weeks...
I'm sure whichever Dem candidate gets involved in the next mini-scandal will become the new candidate to hate for a while, until the next one screw sup, and so on and so on...

One thing I've learned is that the popular opinion towards politicians of both parties on this site is anything but consistent.

67. I don't hate Obama...

Just the opposite. I WANT to support him, but the way he handled this McClurkin ordeal is another illustration to me why he's just too wet behind the ears to assume leadership of this country. I actually really like Obama and really wish he had waited another cycle or two to throw his hat into the ring for POTUS. A very unfortunate stumble for Barack. If Bushco hadn't fucked things up so abominably in the last seven years, I could overlook Obama's "greenness" but right now, we're going to need someone who can walk into that oval office that can hit the ground running. I really hope that whoever gets the nomination (assuming Obama doesn't) recognizes the incredible potential there and taps him for a cabinet position where he can politically mature.

74. It was his own doing.
He has no one else to blame but himself.
