I think the S.F. gay marriages affair is to take focus off MA for Kerry
I think that's a good thing BTW. I'm for freedom and equal rights (I'm a devout Catholic - please leave that to another thread - there's a difference between a religion and the influence a government has over non-believers). It seems like the whole issue is being skewed to make Kerry, the frontrunner- to use the media's term - to look like a "Massachusetts liberal, and shore up there southern and middle of the road votes. If Massachusetts get's gay marriage then they can say Kerry is from the gay marriage state. People would be swayed by that. I think, and I stress think - this is a theory i talk about with friends like the DU peeps - that the Dems wanted to shift focus to the other side of the country and take the heat off Mass. That's good strategy and good for everybody concerned if I'm correct. Any one else agree or disagree?

And please don't start a whole Catholic thing, I only brought it up to point out that this is a secular issue not a religious one. Personally I have a real faith questioning issue here. It's personal and can be talked about elsewhere. Thanks.

1. The problem is the whole gay marriage issue is bogus
I was talking with a coworker who proudly calls himself a redneck. He said he was against gay marriages. I countered with, "Well, half of marriages now fail, and more and more children are born out of wedlock. Since gays aren't allowed to marry, can you blame that on them? How are gays marrying going to change that?"

His next comment was that "some of them have kids...I feel sorry for the kids."

My response: "Well, do they have kids now? They do? Then how is being able to get married going to change that?"

He looked at me in shock. "You know, you're right," he said.

Take it one person at a time, and we can knock down this straw man.

2. amen
When people think about it for more than half a second, they come down on the correct side of the issue.

4. On a related point, I didn't realize until today that Cheney has a
daughter who is a lesbian.

Surely he loves her enough to tell his "boss" that she should be treated with the same respect as everyone else. Doesn't he?

5. I doubt it
This wouldn't have happened at all but for a state judge pretty much ignoring the law. While I like the results for those who got the marriages, I think that ultimately this was a destructive tactic to take. When this battle is won in the courts we need it to stay won, and disregarding law we don't like isn't condusive to that happening.
