Yep.
that Bob Jones III. The one who believes that the Ken Doll's Mormon faith is a cult. And yet...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071025/ap_on_el_pr/romney_bob_jonesMANCHESTER, N.H. - Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney embraced his association with Christian conservative Bob Jones III Thursday despite Jones' sharp criticism of the Mormon faith central to Romney's life....
The university teaches its students that Catholicism, like Mormonism, is a cult. At the time, it also had a policy banning interracial dating between its students. It rescinded the policy after publicity generated by Bush's visit....
Bob Jones III, the university's chancellor, said in his endorsement of Romney last week, "As a Christian, I am completely opposed to the doctrines of Mormonism." He also labeled the Mormon church an "erroneous faith," and included it in with Catholicism as a non-Christian "cult."
Nonetheless, Jones said he was backing Romney because he believes the GOP presidential contender embraces conservative values.Ohhh-kayyyy. Let me see if I've got this straight (so to speak; BJU bans "militant" homosexual alumni from its campus!): Faith is central to the Ken Doll's life. Faith is central to BJ III's life. BJ III believes that the Ken Doll's faith is a cult. And yet, not only does BJ III endorse the Ken Doll anyway, the Ken Doll is cool with that!
So, to recap: BJ III will endorse a man he believes to be a cult member as long as he "embraces conservative (i.e. homophobic, misogynistic) values". The Ken Doll will gratefully accept the endorsement of someone who believes his faith to be a cult, as long as it's someone with influence over repuke voters in an early primary state.
So I guess faith isn't really as central to either of their lives as they would have us believe. :eyes:
P.S. BJU didn't really "rescind" the policy banning interracial dating. They amended it to say that interracial dating is hunky-dory, as long as the students have a note from their mommies saying it's okay to jump the fence. :sarcasm:
