Biden tells it like it is. Again.
BIDEN: Joe was fired up yesterday, NBC/NJ’s Carrie Dann notes. Speaking about what he said is the Bush Administration's censorship of images of flag-draped coffins arriving from Iraq, Biden was incensed: "I'm the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, the fifth most senior member of the Senate," he said. "How DARE the president tell me I can't walk on to a military base!" What was noteworthy about his remarks yesterday wasn't his passion against the war; rather it was that he delivered them to an audience mostly made up of medical students during a detailed health care policy rollout speech.

Yesterday, Biden fleshed out the details of his health care plan, which he says differs most notably from his rivals' because of its simplicity and its focus on catastrophic costs. But when asked to discuss the shortcomings of care for military veterans, Biden's eyes alit and he strode up the center of the lecture hall, confounding cameramen who frantically swiveled to try to catch him on tape. "None of us in this room are making a sacrifice for a STUPID war that we shouldn't be in the first place," he said. "And they are. They are. We owe them.

(It so like Biden to drop the script and passionately rant about an injustice.)

1. I so would like to think that this is real and not just more Political Bullshit....
One can only hope I guess, but like most other candidate that I see... Many of them are just there to attempt to win an election... And I really find that very sad indeed... The problem right now, is who is going to be the best candidate for this country and not just the candidate that is most popular?

4. This happened a couple of years ago - before he was campaigning for
President.

My sense of Biden is that he's in this to DO something, to help turn the country around. My sense of some of the others is that they're in this "competition" to win.

6. He is so real it's painful
I worked hard for Mo Udall in 1976, a man I knew from childhood. I have worked for a lot of Democrats since then, but Biden is the first politician since Mo to make me want to do whatever it takes to help him. He is the most passionate and sincere politician I have met in over 30 years. I have met him twice here in Iowa, and I'm telling you, you cannot fake what he is. He is not perfect. When I first went to see him, I wasn't particularly interested. But sitting in a small town library, watching him sketch a map of Afghanistan on the curtain with his hands, listening to him answer every question without flinching or obfuscating, seeing the way he totally connects with people, my choice made itself. He is very bright, incredibly knowledgeable, yet he never makes anyone feel small. He listens to people, and he cares about them. He is the best we have this year, whether anyone knows it or not, and some of our other choices are pretty good.

10. Susan - welcome to DU! I really enjoyed your post :)
I feel the same way about Biden, altho I have never met him. I have heard that story about him drawing a map. He is amazing. Every now and then C-Span will broadcast one of his campaign events, and I have noticed how he interacts with people, how he is willing to chat with them on any subject. He seems to have no pretenses.

Did you use to live in AZ when you worked for Mo Udall? I live in Az.

12. Thanks Susan in Iowa!
You have expressed what quite a few of us on this site see and feel about Biden's work. It is especially important to hear this from someone in Iowa who can watch all the candidates up close and personal.

Welcome!

3. He spoke about it on Face the Nation to call attention to it, to let the public
know what the DOD (Rumsfeld, actually) was doing.

He said he was there with a family who had asked him to accompany them to pick up their son's remains. No cameras, not a photo-op, it was private, yet because he's a US Senator they wouldn't allow him in that area.

It wasn't the military's doing, it was the Pentagon's - i.e. Rumsfeld.

Out of curiosity, what do you think he should have done? What do you think the other candidates would have done?

5. I saw the clip on Hardball today
I wish they'd elaborated on it more, but I'm glad they wrote about it at MSNBC. We need to see a little more righteous indignation towards this administration.

9. I will continue to leave this post all over the country
until I've been flamed out of the universe for posting it.

In these troubled and dire time we live in, Joe Biden, to me, encompasses all that we desperately need for our nation:

1) Intelligence
2) Experience in ALL phases of government
3) Strength
4) Respect from world leaders
5) Diplomacy
6) Command of issues
7) Solutions to problems that face our nation
8) Honesty
9) Integrity
10) Respect and trust from his peers
11) Respect and trust from the people who follow him

Joe Biden certainly meets ALL of the criteria above.

I pray and hope every day that Mr. & Mrs. America, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina know in their hearts, that if we lose Joe Biden, we'll have lost one of the best Presidents our nation will ever have.

Please watch a video I produced to show my support for Senator Biden. If you support him, please send the link below to family and friends, and ask them to do the same.

22. I know Biden is doing better because his threads here get more and more traffic.
Awhile back they were sinking as fast as the Dodd and Richardson ones were (the DK ones can linger because he annoys people). Now they get more views and more responses.

He's running a good campaign and his supporters have been very cool.Kudos to both!

Every day we see new "faces" on these threads and most manage to stay afloat.

Thanks for the compliment! "Cool"? Takes one to know one!
