Cry me a red, white & blue effing RIVER: "Republicans Object To (Rep. Pete) Stark's Comments On War"
Republicans Object To Stark Comments On War
By Josephine Hearn

Oct 18, 2007

(The Politico) House Republicans objected today to comments made by outspoken liberal Democratic Rep. Pete Stark of California on the Iraq war during debate on the override of President Bush's veto of the children's health program. Speaking on the House floor, Stark said, "Under the Republican plan, by 2017, we probably will have killed 20,000 soldiers in Iraq, spending
$200 billion."

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) rose to protest the remark and asked that Stark's words be taken down, a formal procedure to punish a member of Congress for breaching the House's standards of decorum. The chair later ruled that Stark's comment did not refer to any specific House member and thus were appropriate. Earlier in the SCHIP debate, Stark had made other spirited remarks.

“You don't have money to fund the war or children,'' he said. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Responding promptly and harshly to Stark, the National Republican Congressional Committee declared he had "trampled on the sacrifice of our troops."

2. Oh, the sacrifice of our troops is indeed being "trampled on". But
it sure ain't Pete who's doing the trampling......

3. Proudly saluting Rep Stark
Ah republicans surely get pissed when someone gets in the well and tells the truth.

"Sacrifice of our troops." How quaint. Our kids are sacrificing for one reason only. george bush is a liar. And conservatives love him for his lies.

when Democrats confront them with their behavior. Note how the repunks throw tantrums worthy of serial killers when Democrats throw the truth in their faces.

4. Any bets on how long it will take for the Democrats to apologize?
As I just posted in another thread about this: I give it until Monday. That'll allow the Republicans to milk it for all it's worth on the Sunday talk shows.

8. My, my, my
I wonder why the Republicans don't try to fight Stark with . . . the truth? Instead, they want to take down his words, because apparently, they don't have any truth to fight back with. It's like holy water to a vampire.

15. Quite possibly, but I get so damned tired of so few people actually telling the TRUTH,
so I can't help but applaud when someone does.

12. I love Pete Stark
I will never forget the fabulous smack-down he dished out to those jackboot supply siders on CNBC one time. Man he called Bush a fascist and everthing! They were in a frenzy over what he said.

T'was a thing of beauty I tell you! Pete Stark rocks!

Responding promptly and harshly to Stark, the National Republican Congressional Committee declared he had "trampled on the sacrifice of our troops."

Oh please, Bush and his cronies have literally sh*t on the sacrifice of our troops at every turn. They have no room to talk.

14. I contacted Rep Stark's office (Please spread the luv)
and I told them I was so proud of the statements he made today. The guy on the phone told me that he has received so many calls criticizing Representative Stark on his statements today and only very few supporting the congressman. If you have the time and inclination give his office a call and tell them how much you stand behind his statements. I call it positive reinforcement.

Heres the numbers.

Every once in a while, someone does the job they were elected to do. Today, that person was Pete Stark.

20. It would be good to call our own reps
and let them know we are proud of Starks remarks, too. The republicans are already shouting phony indignation to their pals at FOX.I don't want to see any Dems meekly apologizing for the truth.

26. Thanks for bringing that up
I thought the very same thing. Even though I have a (R) congresswoman she voted for SCHIP and also to override the veto but I let her office know that I was pleased with her attempt. I also let them know how much I appreciated Rep Stark's comments on the floor.

27. Mine is Thaddeus McCotter(R),who voted against,
which is par for the course. I still send him e-mails all the time letting him know how much he disgusts me and vowing to work hard to make this his last year in congress.I just sent him another one. He never answers me,but I hope there's thousands more letting him know what an embarrassment he is.

28. Good for you!
They need to be reminded that in spite of the fan mail they receive from the rabid right there are plenty of people sick of their shit and would jump at the first chance to give them the boot come election time. I know many will say, "Why bother?" but I feel that this is one way I exercise my rights...so be it.

16. SCHIP and the Iraq War should NOT be Tied together
And here is why.

If the children grow to be healthy, and are still in poverty, they will be more likely to volunteer, or more likely a draft, for the military.

Once in the military, they would then be sent to the meat grinder called Iraq. And soon, again, Afghanistan. I don't even want to think what attacking Iran would do to our military. :(

Now, if the children grow and are not healthy, the military will reject them and they will live.

This will save a whole generation of children!

Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 03:48 PM by FreepFryer
These corrupt, sex-scandal-ridden, incompetent, war-profiteering criminals have no right to open their mouth to complain about Rep. Stark's words.

IGNORE THE FAKE OUTRAGE MACHINE.

22. So corporate whores like CBS give "bitch-and-moan" time to the Repubs...
I hear B&M sessions if I don't turn off my radio fast enough at the 5:00am hour when the BBC goes off and NPR comes on. NPR always accommodates the Repubs with their bitch-and-moan sessions.
